Liat Grenada to Tobago

Post by Paul Haresign »

Would anyone know Liat's policy on baggage allowance. We have tickets with 20 kg allowance but would like to know their maximum permitted and excess charge rates. We have emailed Liat several times over the past few weeks but with no reply.

Hi Paul & Welcome Aboard

I’m not surprised that you haven’t heard back from LIAT. I’ve tried emailing them a number of times, trying to establish information about flights to Tobago, but never got a response.

Sorry, but can’t help with your questions. They use much smaller aircraft, so their baggage allowances tend to be on the low side. I’ve travelled with them a number of times and, given Jill’s packing style, I know we must have always been over-weight every time. However, we never had any problem and I don’t recall any extra charges. Having said that, don’t take my word as gospel. Hopefully somebody else can provide more informative guidance.

Happy New Year.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your reply and a very informative site.
I have received a reply (it took 3 weeks) from LIAT. They say;

'Our baggage allowance is 20kgs or 44lbs .Maximum weight allowed 32kgs or 70lbs. Carry-on is 16ins long, 12ins high, 8ins wide.'
All the best from LIAT THE CARIBBEAN AIRLINE.

It would appear that 32kg is the maximum, presumably with the excess above 20kg being charged for. I have asked for their excess charge rate, perhaps I will receive a reply again!

We are having a week in Grenada (we had a great holiday there last year) and then using the LIAT link to Tobago. For your other visitors info they fly daily at 1820 landing 1850 for £78.80 incl taxes bought from TRAVELOCITY.CO.UK

We are using Excel flights from GOLDEN CARRIBEAN, Jill Hancocks was very helpful with lots of extra info. It works well for the Grenada - Tobago combination.

In Tobago we are staying at Blue Waters Inn. We are keen divers (hence the need for a good baggage allowance) but would like to know if there are any must do's in the area (apart from diving). We plan to dive with the on-site operator http://www.aquamarinedive.com. Would anyone recommend diving throughout with them or diving with different operators through the week.

Thanks
Paul
