Castara - Local Historian?

Hi all
I will be visiting Castara for my third time in February 2010 and I'm looking forward to re-meeting some of the friendly people who live there and also to meeting up with some of the people from this forum who will also be in Tobago while I am there.

My main interest when I'm not working is documenting and recording the history of the town where I live and I wondered if there is anyone living in the Castara who is carrying out any similar work? Previously we have met lots of locals who are registered tour guides and who want to take us on trips into the rain forest, round the island, etc. but something I would really like to do is have a walk around Castara with someone who lives there and who knows about it's history and the people, is there such a person?

Change happens much faster than we think, Castara was probably very different 20 years ago from what it is like today and in another 20 years time it will be different again. Things that happen today in the village will be history in just a few years' time. This history will be of interest not only to visitors but also to the people of the village, so I do hope that someone is keeping records of events, people and development of the village.

Anyway if there is such a person that I could talk to in February I'd be happy to hear of them.

The one person that you absolutely must contact is Ancle George, owner of the Naturalist Beach Resort. He is passionate about preserving not just Castara's but all of Tobago's history! He'll put you in touch with some very interesting old-timers in the village. When are you going to be there? My husband, Dick, ansd I will be at the Naturalist from Feb. 14 to the 21st. Thanks for your reply, we hired a car from Ancle last year, so no problem dropping by to have a chat with him. It's good to hear that someone is passionate about preserving the history of Tobago and Castara, I think it's really important.

Looks like we'll just miss you as we'll be on our way home just as you are arriving.

Ancle would be a good point of contact. However, will ask our friend whether her mother would be happy to talk to you - sure she will ! The family go back a long way in Castara - a good idea or not ?

Hi and thanks for your replies, sorry if I'm late responding, just very busy here - you know how it is!
It would be really good to talk to some locals about village life.
Professor, will you still be in Castara in February? If you are I'm sure we will meet up, we are staying at Castara Cottage - which is conveniently close to Coddrington's rum shop!
