9 nights in Tobago: Itinerary & Lodging

Post by Daniel »

Good morning everybody,

I'm planning to visit Tobago at the very beginning of January.

My itinerary is 3 nights in Castara, 3 nights in Charloteville and 3 nights in Crown Point. What do U think of this itinerary?

I've also been looking for lodging in these places mostly on this website. My budget is no more than $ 60 for a twin room. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Daniel.

Hello Daniel

Welcome aboard! :)

Personally, I would limit a 9 day stay to just two locations, not three - unless, of course, you are using this as a 'taster' of the different regions of Tobago and hope to come back another time to explore in more detail.

If you use the Advanced search options on our Accommodation page, you can limit the search results to properties within your price range. You will be able to see visitor opinion from the RSR (Reader Satisfaction Rating) shown for each property.

Thank U, Steve!

It's my first trip to Tobago. I'm not into moving from place to place, but I certainly want to see a bit of everything. I live in Venezuela and, since I'm so close to Tobago, who knows? I might want to go back again. I've found wonderful lodging options in Crown Point, Castara and CharlotteVille on this website.

I can't wait!

Daniel.

Hi Daniel

Just a thought ... and please note that I am biased

I think Castara is the best place for explorers to stay for the duration of a holiday in Tobago ... simply because of it's central location. This is also assuming that you are happy to use a hire car.

From Castara you have relatively quick access to both ends of Tobago and it is actually a nice place to chill for your days off.

Hope this helps.

Hey everybody,

My problem is that I can't drive. I've read about people basing in one place and visiting the island by car, but I can't do this. What are taxi fares like?

Hi Daniel

You can´t drive (same with me), and if you want to be able to move around, to visit more places outside the area where you stay, you will have to make some choises.

As you can see, they all like Castara, but that area isn´t the first choise if you doesn´t have a car. Taxis to/from will be expensive, buses goes to Castara from Scarborough but only a few times per day, and the time table is not to trust for 100%. Sometimes they doesn´t have drivers or buses enough in town, and than they simply cut of one route and if that means Castara, one is "trapped" there, happend me once.

I know that you will be able get name and phone numbers to local drivers from from UK-persons on this site, and via them you might be able to organize your trip as you want it, to use private drives to be able to stay into different areas.

Here are my opinions if you choose to stay at one place and visit others from there, as a person who doesn´t have a drivers license:
You could choose an accomondation in south or central Tobago, as all bus lines start in Scarborough. Using local buses or local route-taxis to go to places in the area where you stay, that´s quite easy.
I know that peoples on this site will be able to give you name/phone numbers to trusted drives if ypou want an provate taxi.
The areas I´m talking about are: Crown Point in the south, Carribean Side up to Plymoth, central Tobago, the Atlantic side up to Charlotteville via Roxborough and Speyside.
But using local buses or route-taxis to travel on the Caribbean side in the area between Plymoth and Castara, that isn´t so easy at all.

It´s also so that if one move from one place to an other, you will loose time, and as your total stay only seems to be about 1,5 weeks, you will spend far too much time moving from one place to an other, that´s my opinion.
