Matters have improved slightly in the UK but the west is getting more snowfall this week.

It looks like Tobago is frost-free

Paul, i can tell you, Trinidad is frost free, too.

David, i envy you. But after office hours i will try to find one or two of those beastly cold ones, too.

Weather today in Trinidad is warm and sunny. There is an unusually strong SE breeze, causing some good swells in the Golf of Paria. A good thing i didn't go fishing today.

C-ville, Sunday 24, Jan., I have been here for 3 weeks and the weather has been the best of all the years I have been coming to Tobago for the month of Jan. Since the first of Jan. it has rained only for 10 to 20 minutes during the day only 2 or 3 days. At night it has only rained maybe four nights with 2 being rather hard but not longer than an hour. During the day the darker clouds seem to be all moving down the Castara way. Along the beach where the streams come down there are no cut outs in the sand, it has not rained hard enough to cut through to the sea. The seas were really really rough between x-mas and new years but have been almost calm since then. Like David said it was pretty windy on the 21st but the seas were still quite calm, the wind was a little off shore. The sun has been out every day except one when it was overcast but no rain. A few clouds roll through so you loose the sun for a couple of minutes now and then. The water temp. seems to be warmer this year too. I have been in the water every day for at least an hour. My wife is arriving tomorrow so it will probably rain for a couple of weeks ( it has for the last 2 years). If it does again this year she may have to stay home next year. Phil

C-ville, Tuesday 26 Jan., We had sunshine the whole day. It was a little windy. The rollers were pretty big coming into the bay. One fisherman who was unloading fish at the beach had two waves break over his bow. He lost a lot of gear but was able to bail the boat quick enough to keep it afloat. Out side the water was not bad. C-ville, Monday, Feb. 2, Really nice today. Not bad Sat. and Sun. Last week it rained Thursday and all day Friday with pretty high waves. Today it was windy and quite rough outside the bay. Probably because of being so dry there are hardly any mosquitoes or those bitting sand bugs. Phil

Thanks David

The heat was probably the humidity I expected.

I think the sea breezes are just local breezes off the cooler sea during hot weather.

High pressure is now over Tobago ... a massive swathe of it across the whole of the tropical Atlantic and the southern half of the Caribbean ... I cannot see a cloud anywhere on the sat loops ... never seen that before.

I hope you are enjoying it ... I was going to be there from today but had to put it off for another year.

Meanwhile, back in the UK ... it's brass monkeys mate !!

If Tobago had monkeys, believe you me they would be sweating. I don't know what the temperature is, but it is truly glorious here in Castara. Sorry to stick the knife in, mate - particularly after visiting the Naturalist yesterday and seeing their new rooms, where I know you would have been staying. The new rooms are a whole category up on previous offerings - really lovely. Anyway, I'll raise a Stag to you in a minute when we break off writing for lunch.

Paul, see what you can do to speed up those 'showers' you forecast for the end of this week, will you please. What I thought (and hoped) was rain clouds is actually just smoke from the bush fires that have started in the Arnos Vale hills. The grassy stubble on those hills is so tinder dry that you can probably start a bush fire with nothing but a pair of spectacles. Please send us some rain.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the splendid report of some rain for this week. I'm probably the only person on My Tobago that is hoping for some shower activity. Just saw Steve's reply...I guess not. I am now having to contemplate what veggies (I finally had growing) or other plants we will "wet" as they say here. Which is about right. WASA barely pumping. Scared every time I smell smoke. Wondering what will happen after another month of dry or longer?? Know any good rain dances?? Usually saying we're off to the beach or leaving the towels draped over the balcony (a second rinse!#$) does the trick.
I know, it's not snowing!!

Cheers from hot and very dry Studley Park area.
