There were no baitfish to be found anywhere and as a result, no predators within casting range of the shore.
We were really dumbfounded by the absence of baitfish, birds and tarpon, jacks etc.
Even the banker marks like Plymouth were devoid of any fish of any kind and there weren't even any pelicans sitting on the pirogues. I could count the number of pelicans and terns that I saw all week on the fingers of both hands
The local guys who fish at Crown Point were just limin' most times.
I didn't see anyone get a handline out all week, let alone catch anything.
We did manage a couple of snook, cuda and houndfish, but compared to past visits caught as much in one week as we expect to in a day.

I can put up with not catching when the day breaks like this

Snook on a soft plastic (Rich had two just before on a Maria Angel Kiss)

The surf was running this evening, but something was hungry

The first cuda from this mark - interesting.
Around Sunday of last week all became clear, as there was a hell of a set of swells coming in e.g. surf to 10ft smashing against the wall at Grange and even at Pigeon Point there was surf in the lagoon by the pier which made swimming dangerous. One of the dive boats was ripped from her moorings and ended up swamped and grounded on the beach.
On the morning of my last day a shoal of jacks were busting bait out at cable bay and the sea was settled at last so maybe the baitfish had returned once the swells had abated.
Mike and his son Richard are still out there and if you check out his website around this time next week, he'll have put a couple of reports on and I fully expect that he'll be reporting a much better second week's sport.
Cheers
Steve
