We stayed at The Beach House for about 10 days in January after being stuck at Gatwick for 5 days so needed somewhere very chilled to recover from this delight. The Beach House must be one of the best locations on the island - it is 10 paces from the beach. The room was fine and had everything we needed, clean, good shower - no complaints at all.
Castara is lovely, the people are lovely and we were made to feel very welcome. Porridge looked after us well and even gave us a trip and tour around Scarborough after a problem with the Castara cashpoint machine. He really is a top man.
It is one of the few places I've ever been when doing very little is highly recommended. Get up, have a swim, lie in the hammock, watch the Motmots make their regular visits (I'm a birdwatcher and after 10 days had masses of birds visiting the feeders), have another swim, have a beer, go and buy some fish at the beach (about 16.00, and 20T$ will get you something marvellous), grill it, eat it, have another beer and watch the little fruit bats emptying the sugar water from the hummingbird feeders.
Maybe, try a peanut and guiness ice cream (I'm serious). Maybe go to the Tuesday pan night.
So, The Beach House is very recommended. Our thanks to Carol, Porridge, Pandy (who gave us regular invites into his home for Tobago food and liming) and everyone else who makes Castara such a great place. Nearly forgot: Sherwins Curry Goat at Marguerites......
Is there any downside: well the waves don't always lap, sometimes they crash. It is Tobago and there are 24 hour chickens. Sleep can be a problem........ but not a big problem.
If you have any questions I'd be pleased to try and answer.
