GSM Pay as you go SIMS are launched in Tobago!

Post by Glyn Kirpalani »

Dear all

As of about a week ago owners of Dual or Tri band mobile GSM 'phones can purchase a local SIM card with telephone number for tt$250 + VAT (circa £25 or so), then charge them up with affordable credits - peak calls are just tt$1.99 a minute, or 20p. Paperwork is minimal as this is a pre-paid system, and I believe the SIMs may be available over the counter from authorised shops other than just TSTT (where the queues are a nightmare).

This will suit those coming here for extended periods, or several short trips over a period (needing a long term local contact number) but you must ensure that your mobiles are unlocked to accept sims from alternative suppliers than back home. TEXTs, voicemail etc all comes too.

Regards
Glyn

Hi Glyn,

Do they do mobile cards for laptops to connect to the Internet ,E Mails and chat to friend in UK.
I am going to purchase a laptop and not sure if I will have access to a phone line.
I know Vodafone do one but it works out quite pricey if you want to download pics etc.

Regards Chris.

Hi Christine

No idea, sorry. Try the TSTT website, await someone else with a more knowledgeable post or even the supremo himself - Steve Wooler is knocking around the island now and as and when he checks these posts he may know the answer.

Hi Christine

No, to the best of my knowledge there is nothing like that over hear. See the Telecommunicatons article in Information section of our site for my comments on the only appropriate ISP for connection of your laptop.
