Hello everyone! Heather and I just registered and want to just put a note here to thank Steve Wooler and the admins for all the work they have put into this board for people just like us that want to research and prepare for our trip to Tobago this year! It looks like there is quite a bit of combined experience with this exotic island and it is the perfect place to ask questions and plan our trip. We are not leaving until June so there is still several months to ask questions here and prepare.
We wish to thank you all in advance for any help or support we get while we travel along our learning curve to plan a trip that we have been talking about doing for over TEN YEARS and we are finally going! Air and Lodging is already paid so we are committed now!
Please bear with us whilst we bombard the board for the next little while with all of our silly questions!

Hi Richardus
you did the right thing to inform yourself about Tobago on this site. And there are no silly questions, only silly answers.
Just ask and you all the Tobagophiles will answer.
I travel to Tobago since 1998 and will do as long as I live so I'm definitely tobagophil I guess. You wrote you booked already so where on Tobago will you stay? In a hotel or guesthouse? In the north or south? Atlantic or Caribbean sea?
What do you expect? How long do you stay?
Cheers
Gisela

Re: Hello from Tobago trip planners in Ontario Canada
Hello and thanks you two for responding! We have already booked a stay in June at the Turtle Beach Hotel. I know it is not the most luxurious and as I research more I'm finding some of the villas may have been a better deal, but there are some sentimental reasons for going.
You see, the last time I was in Tobago I was 11 years old. I actually found my old passport with my smiling 11 year old face and original tobago stamps in it from March 1978. I remember the trip well as I was left to play on the beach at the Turtle beach hotel and swam in the waves for several hours unattended. (in those days this was normal)
After getting out of the water I realized something was wrong, my back was severely burned. I had blisters the size of baseballs on my shoulderblades and spent the next two days in bed which really took the fun out of the trip for me.
After getting married in June 1999 my wife and I made a pact that we would go to the Caribbean once again on our five year anniversary. Well, it's been 11 years now and still no trip, so this year we put all caution aside and finally booked the trip, to return to the same hotel as I went to in 1978 to see if I can have a better time and try not to get so burned.
White-skinned country people from Georgian Bay Ontario have pretty sensitive skin to begin with, so we plan to go to a tanning salon for at least a month before we leave, hoping this and a good sized bottle of 60 block will help us!
While staying there we wish to plan a variety of activities, we do not plan to relax too much as we can always do that on a camping trip at home, this is about seeing another part of the world so we want to tour a lot.
So far the only thing we have planned for sure is the off road tour to the waterfall. I'll be posting here for ideas on
other places we can safely go with reputable guides.

Haha, we are business owners for the past seven years. We dont know the meaning of the word relax, but let me rephrase, we just are not planning on spending the whole week laying about the cabin or on the beach, we want to sightsee, but that of course doesnt mean I dont plan to spend a few afternoons with a book and a nice fruity rum drink!

Believe David (hi David, nice to see you), to be on the island means to be relaxed. They call it liming.
How about snorkeling? (with the 60 block on your back for sure) You can book a boat trip at the hotel or a sail trip (don't forget the sun tan).
Plan some things but book them, when your are there. The hotel will help.
Cheers

Re: Hello from Tobago trip planners in Ontario Canada
Absoloutely, we will plan most of our activities, but not actually book anything until we reach the island. We are hoping being the low season that we should not have too much trouble with overbooked tours and such. The only thing were not sure about is if we should book the ferry ride well in advance. We will contact them a month before we leave to check on that.
