We're two guys from Sweden looking forward to our second visit to Tobago. We have a rather long question that we need answered, I've tried contacting Monarch but no luck there
We've booked a return flight from LGW to Tobago (Jan 19th-Feb 9th, 3 weeks wooohooo ), this aircraft will stop in Grenada before arriving at Crown Point, we're traveling without hold baggage.
Would it be possible for us to get off the plane at Maurice Bishop/Grenada and then travel on our own (with Caribbean airlines, LIAT or sth) to Tobago?
In this way we could enjoy two beautiful caribbean islands in our 3 week stay!
I guess that in theory, nobody could stop you leaving the aircraft. If you have no checked luggage, then I wouldn't have thought you would have any problem.
You say you have booked your tickets. If you hadn't, I would have suggested contacting Golden Caribbean - the main organisers of the Monarch service to Tobago. I suspect they would have been a little more cooperative than Monarch. Mind you, it might do no harm to contact them at [email protected] and see what they have to say.
Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

Hello,
I would be not do that just so, make sure that you get it in writing from Monarch that they allow you to do that.
It is a charter airline and they might cancel your return flight if you just get off the plane without authorization.
It will also cause a possible delay of the flight because the flight manifest would be inaccurate for the continuation of the flight to Tobago. Because of the increased security measures they might even search the aircraft for explosives etc.
So, definitely a no no if you don't have it arranged with the airline.
Steve: I think we booked with Avro (www.avro.co.uk) through monarchs homepage. Should I try and contact them instead of the airline?
Patrick: Thanks! I will definitely make sure we get the ok from the airline before leaving the plane in Grenada. The last thing I'd like is to cause a delay like that
Another flight-technical question you guys might have the answer to:
Do we really need to check in before 06.30 at Gatwick? There is no possibility to check in the night before or online? I've booked a night at an airport hotel and we could really use some extra sleeping hours...
Thanks for a great and resourceful site! I so wish I was in Charlotteville right now...
You should defenitily follow Steves advice and check with Avro about the check-in time. Mostly lines at Gatwick, as far I could see, has aself-check-in machine, and as you only have carry-on luggage you only need to do that. But there´s still a check-in time to follow, too late and you might not be allowed to enter the flight! I hope you have seen that the weight for carry-on lugguage mostly are low no a days?
As for Grenada, if you want to visit an other Island when i Tobago, the best you can do is to look for that ticket when in Tobago, at Crown Point Airport.
You might also have an eye on St Vincent & the Grenadines, there´s a small island, Bequia, haven´t been there for may years, but it´s very nice and quiet.
There´s no problem to visit other islands as long you can show the Immigration that you have a return ticket to Sweden from Tobago. You need to take that ticket with you where ever you might go. You also need to show them that you have an accomondation, but that booking can be made from Tobago or via Tourist Information at the Airport of choosen Island.
Johan, I´m here in Tobago until the first week of May, in case you need more info. I´m staying in Bon Accord in the south, phone 371-6705. I´ve been travelling here since late 80´s.

I just got the ok from Avro that we will be able to get off the plane in Grenada and then travel onwards to Bago on our own. Have to say they were most helpful and quick to reply! Kudos to Avro!
"All travellers to Grenada must also be in possession of an onward or return ticket." Does this mean that we'll have to have our onward ticket to Tobago booked and in our possession as we enter the country or is our return ticket from Tobago good enough?
I'm asking cause we'd like to try out Grenada before deciding when we'll be leaving for Tobago, if it's fun we might stay 2 weeks if it's not so fun we'll stay 4 days
Good question - but certainly one beyond my knowledge or experience, so I'll have to pass on that. I would have hoped that the return from Tobago would be enough to convince any immigration official that you are a genuine holidaymaker planning a two-centre holiday, but who knows?

Immigration in Grenada is very friendly and i assume they would not make problems if you can show a return ticket from Tobago to your counrty.
If they ask questions at all.
If you are going to buy an own ticket from Grenada to Tobago, and from Tobago you use your AVRO-ticket to go home, than I suggest you to do like tihis.
Show Immigration in Grenada that you have a ticket out from Tobago, that 's a must, as you doesn't have a return ticket from Grenada.
Print out the information you have got from AVRO about your ticket, that they allow you to go off in Grenada and travel on your own expenses to Tobago to catch your flight home.
I don't know if you use b-up when travelling, but this is how I would do:
As an extra security, scan your Swedish ID-card, the first pages of your passport, all tickets, e-mails from-to AVRO a.s.o. and put into a USB-stick as a back-up in case you will need it.
Thanks very much for all your help, I'll be sure to have a couple of backups of all our documents and also my e-mailcorrespondance with avro (Tackar så mycket Ronald).
Can't wait to leave the cold now! 7 days, 10 hours counting....
I don't think I'm answering your question properly, but I saw your questsion re Grenada - and next year will be our FOURTH time going to that beautiful island!!! It is absolutely a MUST SEE if you can do it. And now, because it's so close, we are going to try Tobago in November - something about it just looks really inviting....
but yes - do try to see what you can of Grenada - wonderful people, gorgeous country, great beaches!!!!
