Island Girl or Splash Sports Catamaran?

Post by Patricia »

Hi all,

I can't quite decide on which to choose!

The reviews for both have been wonderful, however, Island Girl seems to be the more popular of the two. I guess this will totally depend on where each catamaran cruise sails (I would love to visit the Nylon Pool but am not sure if Island Girl sails there).

Any opinions on which to choose (and why) will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Patricia

There are many good tour operators recommended in myTobago that can take you on a trip to the places you want to go ... call them and negotiate.

Alternatively, you can go to Pigeon Point/Store Bay and you will have many offers to take you the Nylon Pool ... some give a good time and some don't.

I advise that you plan what you want to do, research this site and contact a recommended tour operator.

Your choice could depend on where you stay.

Paul, I was trying to kill two birds with one stone (ie visit to Cotton Bay, Nylon Pool, etc. in one). Looks like Splash Sports may better fit the bill! :D

Go for it ...

Most tour operators would find that an easy service to provide.

Cotton Bay has bbq facilities, although it's all situated under a dangerous Machineel Tree so don't stand there if it rains. there is a nice reef to snorkel by on the east side and it's a nice beach ... watch out for sandfly bites if you are allergic to them ... the beach is a big habitat for these ghastly creatures.

Near Nylon Pool is another popular bbq place, No Man's Land ... a little Sand Spit like a mini Pigeon Point ... no sandfly problems, no Machineel problems but a bit busy as lots of tour operators use it and I get bored after about 1 hour there.

If you are going on a snorkelling trip you must ask them to include Arnos Vale along the way ... that could be the highlight ... I have seen no less than 5 turtles, a huge bear faced Green Moray Eel (with issues), several Barracuda and a school of 100's of Doreens there in just one visit ... some other days very little but it is worth a look, you may get lucky.

Thanks again, Paul.

I've been in touch with both companies and one sails to Cotton Bay/Castara (Island Girl) while the other sails to Cotton Bay/Nylon Pool (Splash Sports).

I would love love to visit Castara, so I'm thinking of just making a separate trip out to Nylon Pool with one of the many boat tours that go there.

So Island Girl it is!

As for Arnos Vale, I'll try and schedule that in too. Despite all the reviews of Tobago being subdued it looks I won't have enough time to visit and do everything I had in mind. At least there can always be a next time.

Arnos Vale's location is between Cotton Bay and the Nylon Pool/No Man's Land so it would be very easy for a tour operator to fit that in.

It's easily accessed by boat and I think that is the preferred way as I have heard of some issues for those accessing the beach via land since the resort closed down.

Just for clarification: I have no knowledge of the Arnos Vale Hotel having closed down - although, to all intents and purposes, it might as well be. Until the owners put some investment and TLC into the place and alter their attitudes towards patrons, employees and the general public, the hotel will remain a sad parody of what it could be.
