cash exchanges

Post by Cindy W »

does anyone know if the cash exchange at either the Trinidad or Tobago airport are open on Sundays?

Does the bank in crown point exchange US cash for tt.

We do not want to use ATMS as fees are too high for us 3% on what we get out, local atm charges and our bank foreign atm charges.

Thank you.

Hi Cindy

There is no cash exchange as such at Crown Point airport - but there is an exchange desk at Piarco Airport in Trinidad, so you can exchange your USD before taking the short flight across to Tobago.

All the banks will exchange USD for TTD so no problem there. However, none of the banks are open at weekends or on public holidays (see menu: Information > Money Matters > Banks).

With thanks to Tanja at Yes Tourism for correcting me, there IS an exchange office at the airport. It is operated by Classic Tours and is located in the small shopping arcade directly opposite the exit from the Arrivals Hall, just right of the Tourist Office. We do not know the opening hours, but it will almost certainly not be open on Sundays I'm afraid.

thanks if we don't catch the one open at the trinidad airport on sunday we can wait till monday for the others. Think it would be faster to take a cab to the tobago airport for the cash exchange as I know all banks take a loooong time, unless Tobago is different from other island banks

Cindy,

Republic Bank (approximately 500 yds away from the airport) is not as bad as you may think.
There is also RBC Royal Bank in the same area.
If you don't go there on a Friday, you should be in and out in about 15 minutes.
If you exchange US$ cash or traveller cheques, you need to carry your passport.
Also be advised that you can withdraw TT$ cash with your debit or credit cards from ATMs.
