Where to go for souvenirs?

Post by RyanGel »

Hi there,

I'm looking to pick up a few Christmas gifts for family back home while I'm down in Tobago and was wondering where the best places to buy authentic souvenirs on the island would be?

Thanks for your help,
Ryan

Hand made sandals measured to your feet ... but that's no good if you are taking them for gifts unless you get the recipients to draw a line around their feet on a piece of paper before you go out.

I just take memories and share stories ... they are the cheapest, yet priceless around a dinner table ... smile.

Rum from Pennysavers always gets my vote. Family size Fenandes Black Label or even Angustura 1899 are always a welcomed stocking filler.

There are lovely windchimes made from coconut shells and other souvenirs at a shop on Bay Rd. in Castara. Don't buy from the family at Englishmen's Bay -- they are squatters!! We've had our windchime for about 5 years & as long as you take it in in the winter, lasts very well. Although they are bulky, they don't weigh much in the luggage. I think it's run by King David's wife.

The market stalls at Store Bay have lots of arts and crafts - from windchimes to carvings, There is a smaller selection on the decent into 'Sunday School'. Hand crafted jewellery comes up well there. Being folliclely challenged I have always admired the rasta hats with the stick on hair on the sides, but have always resisted. Perhaps next year will be my year!
