Interactive Map Update

Post by Steve Wooler »

Readers may be interested to know that I have just completed a major overhaul and upgrade of our interactive map at www.myTobago.info/maps.php. A reformatting of the screen layout will hopefully make the page more usable for iPad and high-end tablets. New program code has improved efficiency and given me the confidence to include another 150 marker points without (hopefully) making the map load time too slow. Be patient though - it can take a minute or so for the 760+ markers to download and find their location on the map. During my next trip, I am hoping to find the time to take a lot more photos to illustrate the marker pop-up boxes.

Over the past week, I have emailed every business listed on myTobago whose location I am not 100% familiar with, and have asked them to give me coordinates or detailed directions that would allow me to identify their premises on aerial maps. Sadly, only a couple have bothered to reply. Given that this map page is never viewed by less than a 1000 unique IP addresses per month, words fail me.

Although I only add markers when I am 99%+ certain of the exact location, it is inevitable that there will be mistakes, so can I please ask all readers - particularly regulars who know the island well - to notify me if they spot any errors or can think of any other businesses/places/items that could be usefully added to the database.

Hi David

Well spotted re Tino's - I've now removed that establishment from the map and listings.

Yes Tourism are now based at the Aquaterra Boutique - the 'sugar mill' shop just outside the front entrance to the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort. The address of the shop is #7 De Freitas Drive, All Fields Trace
Lowlands. Feel free to correct me if I'm going mad (no comments please), but the map markers for Yes Tourism indicate that location. :?
