Speyside/Purate's Bay visit

Sitting down and planning my 14 day's now (I know, it's either sad as heck and laughable or a clever way to pack in as much as possible - delete as applicable!)...

Staying at the Rex Turtle Beach.

Will hire a car/jeep and have pencilled in Speyside (and Aquamarine DIve for some masks etc!) for a visit, possibly for the day.

So, question for those that have been there... should I squeeze in Pirate's Bay or make that another day?

Also, what is the best way to drive to Pirate's Bay (not all the way, I've read the advice about walking the last bit!) from Great Courland Bay? ie what coast line should I hug?

Hi Marc

A beautiful whole-day trip would be to head up the Caribbean coast from the Rex Turtle Beach, across the main ridge rainforest, then up to Charlotteville where you can visit Pirate’s Bay. You can call in at Aquamarine Dive at Speyside going or on the return. You then return down the Atlantic coast to Scarborough, where you can cut across back to the RTB. A lovely round trip. It’s a long slow drive, but very beautiful, and it makes sense to combine Speyside and Charlotteville in the same trip.

Steve's suggestion looks great you'll enjoy it. A day that worked well for us was being at the BWI early enough to get on the morning glass bottom boat run to little Tobago which includes touring the Bird Sanctuary and snorkeling the Crystal Reef. I can't remember if that got rolling at 10:00 or 11:00 AM. We used Frank's tour, we actually just pulled up to Frank's booth in the BWI parking lot, paid and jumped on the boat. You can lunch at BWI, Speyside or Charlottville which is only a ten or 15 minute drive from Speyside. Get your self to Pirate's Bay and enjoy the afternoon. Leave enough time to get home before dark if you are uncomfortable with night driving on the island.

Hi Marc,
Steve's route/tour is a good way to go.On your way back into Scarborough,stop and have a glass of something,or coffee,at the First Historic Cafe at Studley Park.It is absolutely fascinating.On the walls there is so much information about the history of the island,including a Creole/English 'dictionary'.
You will have a wonderful time,I am very jealous as I have exactly 6 months before I can get back there!!!!

Thanks Steve, consider the idea built into the itinerary!

I know 14 days is no way long enough, and I really will be chilling out as much as possible, but I want to get to see as much as I can - this place assures me that'll be possible!

Just had a peep at the map, my only fear is not being able to pass King Peter's Bay, Castara Bay and Englishman's bay without stopping for the day!

Still, it'll give me a chance to see them all and return after getting my mask and fins at Speyside!
