I stayed at Shirma’s place in Tobago for one month during my elective, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The apartments are spotless, well-equipped, and feel really homey. Each room has air conditioning, which is definitely a plus, and the whole space felt safe and comfortable from day one.

Location-wise, it’s in a lovely, quiet part of Tobago — just a short walk from Bacolet Beach and close to Scarborough. It was so convenient without needing a car.

Shirma really goes above and beyond for her guests. She arranged pick-up and drop-off from the airport/port and organised daily morning lifts to the hospital, which made settling in super smooth. Every Sunday, we were treated to the most amazing home-cooked lunches — genuinely some of the best food I had on the island.

There’s weekly housekeeping, and Shirma is also fantastic at helping you plan tours and experiences. She knows all the best guides and local spots, so you really get the inside scoop.

But what stood out the most was how welcoming and caring Shirma is — she truly looked after us like family. It felt like having a family while being far from home, which made all the difference during the placement.

If you’re planning an elective in Tobago, especially without a car, staying with Shirma is a no-brainer. She’s got everything covered and genuinely wants you to have the best experience possible.
