How much time to allow for customs?
We're scheduled to arrive in POS at 7:53 p.m. Our original plan was to spend the night near the airport and fly on to Tobago in the morning. Now, we're considering taking a 9:15 p.m. flight on to Tobago instead. But...will we have time to go through customs, pick up tickets to Tobago, and make the flight?

Hi Sally,
that could be a bit tight, it shouldn't take more than a hour to clear customs in POS but that only gives you about 30 minutes to sort a flight and pick up the tickets.
The last time I went from POS to Tobago people were walking in right up to the flight boarding so it may be worth seeing if you can book the tickets through to Tobago before you arrive that way if you are a bit late they may just hold the flight for you.
To be honest its a bit more like a flying bus route than a scheduled air flight and the times tend to be a bit flexable.
Regards
Kevin

Hi Sally,
We are just back from Tobago and we went via POS. We cleared customs in less than 10 minutes on our way over and the airport is so small the departure gate for Tobago is right beside the check-in desk. I agree with Kevin though that it may be an idea to book your flight first, if you have done this you can get checked in before you depart Britian. (Depending on the Carrier you are using to POS)

Time to allow for customs
Usually clearing customs at POS is pretty quick - 10 to 15 minutes. If you are unlucky enough to arrive at around the same time as another large flight, however, the queue can get much longer: if this happens I suggest going straight to one of the 'Items to Declare' desks and explaining that you have an onward flight to catch to Tobago. Normally they will help to clear you through.
Picking up tickets and checking onto flights to Tobago is normally a quick business too - again, if you are running close to time let the desk clerk know... they will normally try to make sure you get through to catch your flight. POS is a small airport, so you do not have to run very far to the boarding gate!
