Hi!
Just want to say first of all that this is the BEST Tobago website available!
Myself and hubby are of there in 10 days. (well excited!).
A quick question - would my hubby get away with wearing dark jeans and a smart shirt in the evenings at the main restuarant in the Coco reef?
If not - its a shopping spree before we go!

We just read your question and called Coco Reef and spoke to the social director, this is the official policy: " No jeans allowed in the main restaurant, only long soft pants or trousers, jeans are accepted in the beach restaurant "

Hi Lizzy,
I don't know what the policy is in Coco Reef, but I wore jeans and a shirt the night I was there for dinner, and I looked a lot better dressed than some people in the restaurant. Nobody batted an eyelid at me.
If Rachel Harries is around the forum at some stage she may have a better idea, she is just back from Coco Reef. I doubt your hubbie would have a problem.
It would be a shame (and expensive) to stay in Coco Reef every night anyway. Get out and about, there are so many different tastes and experiences that you must try to flavour while on Tobago.

Nope, no jeans for the main restaurant, although they're OK at the beach restaurant. Part of me feels it's a bit silly, and the other part quite likes the fact that you have to dress up. But then, to me, dressing up is jeans and a top anyway (and maybe some nice shoes!).
I did wear jeans one night, when we were due to go to Sunday School. It felt almost naughty/rebellious walking through the hotel! Weird.
Have a FAB time (goes without saying).

Don’t get me wrong, mate, I’m not having a pop, but did it not occur to you that the reason you had such a bad experience at the Coco Reef on the night you dined there might have been because you were wearing jeans?
To be honest, I was astonished by your reportabout that evening and really couldn’t figure it out, because it was so different to everything I’ve ever heard or experienced personally. If you had been new to the forum, I would have put it down as a malicious grudge post and possibly tried to get some verification from you. It was just so out of character – of the hotel and of you. It’s been puzzling me ever since, but everything dropped into place after I saw your reply to Lizzy. I’ve had similar report twice before, so it can’t be coincidence.
The Coco Reef shouldn’t expect everyone to have read the room notes or to simply “know” the evening dress code for Tamaras, the main bar and Gallery. If they have a problem with the way someone is dressed, a senior member of staff should have a quiet and friendly word. To simply “freeze” the guest out and give them a hard time is out of order – but I’ll put $100 on it that that was the reason for your bad experience.

But as I said above, by the standard of dress of the majority of the other guests, I felt quite well dressed!! There were diners in Tamara's with shorts on for gods sake, now even a humble Irish man wouldn't sink that low
All said, the food in Tamara's is fantastic, and if I were in Tobago again I would definitely go back (in Slacks ) But the levels of service before we got to the restaurant, and our treatment by the manager after the meal were unacceptable.
The funny thing is, that I had changed into a pair of slacks before I left the apartment, but Cheryl reckoned I was over-dressed, so I stuck on the jeans. Not to worry.

Male dress code in Tamara's
Hi Lizzy,
Just returned from Coco Reef today - you are in for a wonderful experience! As to dress in Tamara's, I can confirm that the rule for men is no jeans and a shirt with a collar (ie no tee shirts). However, whilst we did see one man wearing jeans quietly asked to change, on the same evening two others wearing cut-off cargo pants and tee shirts were allowed in! In any event, it's so hot there at the moment that jeans might not be all that comfortable over the duration of an excellent three course dinner!
