Went diving for the first time with manta dive in crown point (http://www.mantadive.com). Randi the instructor was excellent especially with my wife who was a bit scared at first. Totally professional. I went back and did a couple more myself with him and it's got me hooked
One of my favourite memories is heading out the back of the shop, gear over the shoulder in the sun to the boat.
Nature tours -
We went with Peter Cox to hillsborough dam and little tobago. Peter has an imense knowledge and is very into his cause rather than trying to get as much £ out of people as possible. We saw loads of birds (even a hummingbirds nest with chicks), camens etc etc.
We went up the dam road first, then on to jemmas tree house (lovely food & lots of it) at speyside. From there we took a glass bottom boat over to Little Tobago for some bird watching. On the way back we did some snorkelling at angel reef which has a lot of fish when compared to some and saw the brain corals and even a reef turtle.
Peters tour was much more personalised than the tour operators/package deal one (there were 4 of us). Highly recommended. He also does nature talks at some of the hotels.
Bucco Reef
Had a great fun day out with Keith of A team tours at bucco reef.
Tour of the reef, some snorkelling, nylon pool and then onto no-mans land for a rum punch bbq. Also got roped into the limbo competition - which i ended up winning
Only downside - and not related to a team tours or keith in any way - don't buy any cd's off the con man with the stall on the beach there - theyre blank.
Natural mystique
a lovely trimaran yaught day out. We went up the coast, moored in a bay, lots of snorkelling and some excellent food. all food & drink included. Saw dolphins too!! We found it was actually cheaper to book this through out tour guide (virgin). what are the chances of this though: 8 of us on a yaught in tobago & we find out 2 of them live 5 miles away from us in the uk.
other places to go
We hired a car for a week and expolred just about everywhere.
Englishmans bay is lovely and very quiet. the rotti there is very good too.
If you go up the coast on that side, over the top road through the rainforest and down to charlottesville (this is the finished road) it's a nice quiet drive. also worth going up to is the old listening post on the way to charlottesville (on your right, top of a windy bit, there's a sign and a gravel track) the view is fantastic
Up by the hospital in Scarborough is an old fort (St James??) and a very interesting musem
goat races @ bucco
the goat races over the easter w/e are good fun - proper track, stalls, grandstand and the jockeys in their silks (they run beside the goats). they're quick too.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Hope some of this helps
Steve
