Hi Elizabeth
Most visitors get hair braiding done by beach traders. The Coco Reef has a private beach and they strictly prevent beach traders of any type accessing the beach and "hassling" guests.
The Coco Reef does have a good hairdressing salon and being staffed by local girls, they would almost certainly be able to braid your daughter's hair very professionally - but at a price. You might wish to just take a five minute walk to Store Bay, right next door to the Coco Reef (turn right out of the hotel main gates, then immediately right again at the end of the hotel grounds). I am sure you will find one or two ladies who do hair braiding there.

Hi Elizabeth
Store bay, or the Pigeon Point Rd are your best bet.
Not sure of the cost, but my wife and daughter have paid around a tenner (no beads) in the past.
Just a word of caution - try to ensure that your daughter doesn't end up with sun-burn to her scalp. Try to get her to wear a baseball cap to protect the top of her head, when in the sun. She probably won't take your advice ,if she's anything like my daughter - but you can try.
I would have my hair braided, but it's falling out fast enough as it is!
By the way Steve - is there any thruth in the rumour that you're planning on having your beard braided, during your next trip.

Goodness, how did the word spread so quickly? The dilemma is, I can't make my mind up whether to request just a single colour of bead, or whether to go multi-coloured. Mind you, I've still got 6½ months to go and a bit of growth to encourage.

Hi,
My daughters had their hair braided last year at store bay by different people with completely different results. Mollys fell out almost immedialtey while Ellas stayed in for weeks much to her delight.
My advice to you is to watch them do somebodys elses, if they use vasaline and do small sections - perfect! where as if they do large section and no vaseline dont even give it a second though - it really won't stay in!
One final tip if I may, and I think it has been mentioned before - get the hair brading done right at the end of the holiday so her scalp doesn't get burnt! Many years agao I had my hair braided in Barbados and got a very burnt head and boy was it sore.
Have a fantastic time, the Coco Reef is wonderful! only 3 months left until I go!

Well, Horst, we've carried out a few experiments and whilst I agree that the red-white-black T&T national colours would be appropriate, I think I suit the more sophisticated lower-key look illustrated by our fishing guru, Steve Pitts:

I had been sworn to secrecy, but as Steve has chosen to be so cruel to this semi-senior citizen, I have no alternative but to divulge that he uses the same tricks in his fishing article. At great cost and subterfuge, I have managed to obtain the originals of some of his fishing photos. How different they are to the ones he has supplied to illustrate our fishing article. Guess which one is the real one!

Tight lines indeed! I hope that barbed hook catches you where it hurts.

May I suggest you ask the staff at the hotel if they know of anyone that braids hair. I have always found someone to braid my daughters hair in their home or salon, its lasted a month and was well done. The usual charge is $60-100 TT.

A lady called Germaine also known as German does braiding, fantastic lady she has a gift shop 2 along from the bar, she can often be found under the tree opposite, taking advantage of the shade, she is going to do mine on the next visit, I have seen her do her daughters hai as well as tourists and would highly suggest uou ask for her, if you remember say that Jane from near London (friend of Deslie) says hello - she will know who you mean.

if you like to braid your hair I would do it in the beginning and go for the sunblocker to avoid sunburn. it sometimes looks funny when you got a good tan and you white skin coulour is showing between the braids...
