One week in Tobago, is it long enough (for a return visit)

Post by Marc Jones »

NOW.

I am desperately considering a one week trip in order save car hire costs/eating out costs etc in an attempt to make it back to Tobago whilst I can.

I was pondering a return next year (following my first trip there May 04) but that may now not be an option. I _could_ possibly squeeze in a week in November.

Whilst there I was struck by how painful it must be to go for a week and have to come back but I am wondering if that would have more to do with wanting to get more in (aside from the obvious "I wish I could stay forever" factor).

So, unscientific as it is, and far from me being unable to decide (because I think I'd probably go there for the day given how much I think about returning) and just as an idle talking point, any views on a 7 day visit from the assembled throng?

Our first trip to the Caribbean, was courtesy of a competition on the internet, that I won. It was a week in St Lucia. It was the most fantastic week ever, we vowed: 1. That we would go back to the Caribbean come what may and 2. That a week was definately worth it if it was that or nothing.
Our 2 week trip to Tobago followed the next year which was obviously preferable, but I still wouldn't hesitate to take a week if that was all that was on offer.
The flight timings definately help as you get that full last day.
So my vote would be a definite....Go for it!!

Yes Jacqui. That's just what I was after!

Sat here in my office (at home) I look out, see grey London sky, rooftops, and hear passing lorries.

I also sit here reading this forum (I really ought to get on with some work) and I honestly think about Tobago every day since I went (and if truth be known, I did so 3 months before I visited!).

Just getting over the obvious and oft-pondered (by many it seems) "weather at XXX time of year" conundrum now. Oh, that and convincing the other half.

In short, a holiday next year looks unlikely (after having looked a good bet not so long back, so call this a last hoorah (for a while) if you will. Tony Bennett may have left his heart in SF, but I doubt he's seen Tobago. I know mine is still out there!

Hi Marc,
I'd say it's well worth the effort.

Having been once you'll know what you want to to do, what to see, where to go etc. So you should get a lot out of a week. The only real down side is the flight time and if you look at the other options that time of year you will always have to do a fair bit of flying if you want to get away.

I'm looking at something similar in February and at the moment the options are Red Sea, Tobago or the Maldives. The only thing is you need accept your week will end up being about 8 days because of the long haul flight.

The time off work (self employed has it's benefits, although unpaid leave isn't one of them aside from the boss always saying yes ;-) ) is no issue, the week vs two weeks is purely financial.

The killer is, getting there is the cost, an extra week is only £228 for all three of us! But add another week jeep hire, food etc...

Also Virgin's check in check out will help, ie the last day is a nice long stay in the pool/on the beach etc. rather than a frantic rush and a sit at the airport for hours and hours.

jes, a week is very short, but ONE week is better than NO week!
had friends who came back for one (could not make it longer with the hussies taking care of the kids) and they enjoyed themselves so much...
...I'll say: GO FOR IT!

ENJOY!

£650 more for an extra week.

Given Xmas is on the horizon, 2 weeks may be just a bit too lumpy (but I'll ponder some more, damn you John for making me number-crunch all over again! :-) ).

Don't think the mrs would get 2 weeks off work (even though I could).

Now I have Rex v Grafton to ponder.

All inclusive this time I reckon, we'd only end up in the Kariwak every night otherwise! ;-)
