Hi, I am planning on hiring a car in the last 2 weeks of Septmeber. The best price I have so far is from Sunbird Holiday Home Car Rental who offer the Suzuki Jeep for 32 dollars per day. Does anyone know of how reputable this company is? Does anyone know of any companies offering a better rate? Also, the total price is 658 dollars with CDW. I noticed many organisations noted that if you pay for your rental in full with your Credit Card, the Credit Card Company may offer CDW cover. I have 3 Credit Cards and an Amex Gold Card, and none of mine offer this service. Does anyone know of any Credit Card Companies in the UK that will offer this? Thanks for all your help, Gordon.

With regard to credit cards offering CDW, I think this now folklore. I’ve heard and even passed on this information, but when I tried to check it out with major UK credit companies, none knew what I was talking about. Maybe somebody knows different?

I’ve never heard of Sunbird Holiday Home Car Rental, so really can’t comment. Hopefully someone else can. I would use the Search facility above and scan the forum for “car rental”. It’s a minefield and my recommendations are clear.

What is the correct rate for a given car? I guess it depends upon whether you want a one year old reasonably maintained model or a six year old badly maintained example. The prices can be anywhere between vastly different extremes. Also, watch out for CDW – different firms offer different levels of cover. Some firms even offer multiple levels of cover. Don’t automatically assume that CDW provides you with zero liability – most offering seem to restrict your liability to around US$500.
