The Best Rum Punch

OK Rum Punters.

Where was your best Rum Punch experience.

Whether it be strong, tasty or simply refreshing ... lets have the best independent guide to the Best Rum Punch on Tobago.

My wide experience gives me the following suggestions:-


- The wonderful hint of aniseed when sampling on the Kalina Cats (2000)

- The brute force of the Rex Turtle mixture (2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 <couldn't get enough !!!> ... erm ... and 2004 <burp>

- The raw pleasure of the fruits from 'Under the Mango Tree', sadly now closed and never to be tasted again.

- The delicious blend from the Blue Waters Inn (2003 and 2004)


Any other places I should try ??

Well,
I suspect that most of the rum punches I have been served, even at the BWI, have been made with mix. I find them too sweet. The restaurant that makes them with fresh juices will make a fortune.
However, I read a recent article in the Tobago News that very few local people want to engage in agriculture.
I wish they'd let me do it, growing a few trees in my retirement to enhance tourism.

The Kariwak does a mean RumPunch, they mix them to order too so you can specify 1919 for that extra smooooth punch.

BWI on a Friday night the'r free, drank far too many but what a way to go.

Oh no....its coming back to me.....few beers after diving and just about to go change, when out came the free Rum Punch. The rest of that night is a complete blurr. Thank god it wasn't an early start the following day !

I have a vague recollection of the free rum punch at Toucan Inn, when I say vague... I remember going up to Avelon to get it, I remember taking a sniff... and I remember waking up the next day

The moral of the story:

If partaking in the punch at Toucan Inn, take one alcoholic punch and one non-alcoholic punch and mix them together!! Thats what the wife did, and she remembers going to bed!!

PS All this talk of Rum Punch is most unfair the unit I work on is dry and I've been here for two weeks already!!

I know that this thread is about rum punch on the island but I was hoping that I can use it to ask if anyone knows of a good fruit punch that is available already made up to add to the bottles of excellent rum I brought back with me from our recent holiday.
I know that some previous threads have talked about recipes but I am lazy and I am looking for the easy way out (prefer to spend time drinking rather than creating).

Hi Paul,

bear in mind that all fruit punch's are made of fruit juice with some fruits and spirits added for flavour. You already have the spirits, so all you need is the juice and the fruit. From many years of working in the hoaspitality trade, the nicest fruits for punch are Pineapples, apples, lemons, Limes and Oranges. And most places will just use cartons of Pineapple juice, Apple Juice and Orange juice in their fruit punch. If you fancy the kick then you can also add some cranberry juice.

My advice would be to go to Tesco or Asda and pick up some of their fruit juices, even try their exotic fruit juice. I'm sure you will come up with something that will go nicely with a drop of rum!!

Cranberry for a kick with fruit punches.

For a real boot into oblivion ... try adding something bitter like Angostura with your Rum Punch, a pinch of ginger and a few kind words ... and off you go !!

Hi Paul W.,Somerfield do a lovely coconut and pineapple mix ,add a J2O fruit juice of your liking,ice and a generous amount of Forres Park Rum Puncheon and you're almost back in Tobago!!!!! David(4 weeks to go!!! )

Don't forget that a lot of the best rum punches have a little bit of cinnamon in them too!
