Age Limit for drinking

Post by Kathy G »

We are looking forward to visiting Tobago in a few weeks time with our teenaged sons aged 14 and 16. We do allow the 16 year old to have to occasional beer when we go out for the evening. What is the age limit for drinking in Tobago and will they be allowed in bars with us?

Hello Kathy

Welcome aboard!

I confess I haven't the faintest idea what the minimum drinking age is over there. However, I wouldn't imagine that you would have the slightest problem.

Legal drinking age

Post by Kathy G »

Hello Steve,

I think I`ve found my answer on a World Beer Games website of all places! It`s 16 - so my son will be happy! I was just worried it was 21 like the States.

Grafton Beach Resort had a sign posted at the pool bar stating that the sale of alcohol or cigarettes to under 18's was illegal.

The laws for the legal age for buying and the legal age for drinking can be different. They are in the UK - you can't buy alcohol legally here until 18 but you can have a drink with a meal in a restaurant at 14.

Thanks for all your replies. I tend to hope that Julia is right and that the laws are similar to here, where they can have a drink with a meal. We`re on all inclusive, so technically he won`t be buying alcohol anyway!! ;)
