December weather
I too am getting a bit worried about the weather
situation - I would never normally book a holiday to anywhere that had
a weather report saying thunderstorms every day! and would appreciate any tobagains take on the weather in december? I understand the
short heavy shower stuff but a thunderstorm does conjure up more than a 'short heavy shower' so any advice??? or shall we pack a rainhat and
load of good books to keep us going?

Hi Suzanne
This is quite normal for the time of year ... you rarely get just cloudy days, it's either rain or strong hot sunshine.
The same happens in the dryer season except that there is less of the rain and more of the sun.
December is the start of the dry season. It would be less likely that you would experience prolonged downpours and more likely that you would experience mostly sunshine with occasional short sharp showers lasting an hour or 2 and mostly at night.
Today has been a sunny day ... all day !!
Regards

Quite right.
Today, we have had some sunshine apart from a nasty shower during the mid-afternoon.
It has been beautiful in Tobago today.
If you want to come to Wetherby in December I can offer you rain, strong winds, possibly some snow, plenty of morning frosts and approximately 5 to 6 hours of daylight.
In Tobago, it will be sun, odd shower, sun, nice refreshing sea breezes, sun, odd shower and then some more sun with 12 hours of daylight.
Swaps ????

weather
You and me both Sue, i do however feel confident that the rain wont be like home, i was reading recently of someone who went to Antigua for a week and had rain and cloud, they still came back with a good tan though. Beats trudging through the puddles with your wellies on i guess.
Happy holidays, Sue.

Hi Suzanne ... I would be very surprised if Tobago is sunny all day Thursday ... see the latest on Liquid Sunshine.
This is just a rainy period ... it happens, particularly at this time of year ... you and Sue would be unlucky to experience this in December.
And I am always in Tobago, in spirit, regardless of the fact that I live in Wetherby !!!
Keep up the optimism.

Personal report from a friend who experienced the heavy rain on Thursday-
......
Worst rain we ever had since living here, worse than Ivan even, reached 2'
against our ground floor apartment glass door (and 1' at the patio doors
at the back). We thought we had it under control but then the weight of
water in (and on) the drains outside pushed water back up into the
apartment via the shower plug-hole!! Very dispiriting but the Blitz
spirit kept us going. With dad and I frantically bailing inside and with
lots of towels we kept the flood inside down to 3" before the rain
subsided, after several hours. My garden store was washed away, ripping up
plants in its wake, and the pool now contains mud and brown water - first
time the water level ever breached the raised pool walls. 2 deaths on the
island, after a Haiti style mud slide took away their house in Delaford.
One Toyota Hilux was washed out to sea In Courland Bay - the hapless
occupants were rescued by passing fishermen!
.......
Lets hope this extreme weather remains unusual.
Whenever Ive been there this time of year we have had some short heavy showers but nothing like the above report.

HELP!!!
any advice for holidaymakers??
I called tropical places who said they would have to contact their reps
and had not been able to make contact with them. They said if we wanted to cancel we would loose 50% of the holiday price unless they said the country was unsafe to travel to basically we would have to go.
The thought of travelling 9 hours to a country which suffering a crisis
doesnt appeal I just dont know what to do... I am so sorry for the people of toabgo but also holiday time is very precious. Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

You have got me confused. What crisis? What problem? Why would you want to cancel your holiday?
You are, I believe, booked to stay at the Toucan Inn. That is in Crown Point - not one of the remote areas worst affected by the rain. Crown Point is a very flat area, so muddy run-off is hardly likely to be a problem. If you have any doubts, why not simply telephone the Toucan Inn and ask them what the situation is?

Don't panic!
There's nothing the weather can do to Tobago, that Ken Livingstone hasn't already done, woiserer, to London.
You might find the odd road torn up — what's new?
Even trees torn down — what's new?
You'll love the Toucan Inn, and whatever is happening 26 miles north, you'll not notice — unless you go looking.
Just like London.
Fred.

Hi Marco
I can confirm that Top River Pearl was undamaged. They suffered a bit of flooding in the ground floor laundry/utility room, but that was all. And how do I know all this, well by coincidence, Rainer Tichai wrote to me yesterday advising me of a couple of changes and mentioned how relieved he was to have got away unscathed yet again.
As regards u/w viz, I guess a lot depends upon the weather over the next week. However, the sun rapidly burns off surface water and the fast currents around the coast will quickly disperse the run-off, so unless they get sustained wet weather I don't think you'll have a problem.
Have a great trip and be sure to post a report when you get back.
