What do you want to exerience again right away upon return?

Post by Cornelia Montgomery »

My husband and I are headed back to Tobago for our sixth visit in 45 days, more or less. I look forward to hailing a taxi right out of the terminal; the taxi driver will have to exibit great ingenuity because I overpack and we will have three overlarge bags. (We arrive from the U.S. on Tobago Express, which makes for shorter lines but requires us to overnight in POS. We are very determined people.)
The first thing I want for lunch is a flying fish sandwich. What about you?

:D Hi Cornelia \:D/

Like you my wife and I will be returning in 51 days. It will be our second visit to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We are more excited about the trip to Tobago then Christmas.
My suitcase will be restricted to cabin luggage, the remaining three cases will be packed full of 'just in case clothes' something I have never really understood when the most you can ever wear are shorts and top.
The thing we are looking forward to most are the smiles of the islanders and being able to 'slow down' and relax!!

Lovely thoughts.

After a long flight we generally arrive just before or after dark and it's an hour's drive to Castara, arrival at the Naturalist and unpacking, shedding clothes and slipping into something more comfortable.

Barbecue is then laid on by Ancle, the owner of the Naturalist.

Give it one hour, bit of food and plenty of Rum and the Tallets are zombified after the long day ... bed ... up at 4 the following morning (jetlag) to plod aimlessly around Castara Beach in disbelief until breakfast.

Then the holiday really starts ....

Hi all,

I'm really envious of all you people counting in DAYS before you get to Tobago. For us it's 18 WEEKS tomorrow - and I just can't wait for the time to pass.

Then I'm really looking forward to tasting that first genuine Tobagan rum punch!

Jet-lag? I find that having got up really early, travelled for umpteen hours by air, taxi, minibus etc then unpacked, eaten and finally got to bed about midnight (Caribbean time) i.e. having been awake about 20 hours if not more, I then crash out for 8 hours or so and wake up on local time. No problem!

It's coming back on the red-eye that really takes it's toll!!! (Or maybe it's just coming back that's the problem.)

I'm on 14.42 weeks Jane.

If I get my maths right, it's 101 days.

Better still ... 2,424 hours or 145,440 minutes if Excel get the flight on time !!

If Excel are spot on, I make it 8,726,400 seconds before I jump in the car and whisk the family away from the airport and into the bosom of Castara !!

17 weeks and 2 days for us.

After, the taxi ride from the airport, shopping at Penny Savers, arriving, beer in fridge, unpacking, shower and applying mosi stuff the first thing I'm going to do is sit under the stars, watch the fireflies and have a beer. :D
I'm also really looking forward to waking up on the first morning and trying out my homemade humming bird feeders. 8)

After the drive to Charlotteville - hairpin bends, potholes, parties in the midddle of the road and all - we look forward to heading down to Lyda's for a carib and catch up with all the gossip.

And I love the first night when you have the Caribbean smells and sounds to lull you to sleep..

Only 19 days to go

You've all really got me thinking about arriving soon - just 30 days to go.

The first sight of a palm tree on the runway - I can already almost hear the sound of the aeroplane's turbines winding down, followed by the frantic unclicking of seatbelts, and the walk down the stairs to that fantastic wall of heat and humidity.

On the other side of customs, all the people smiling ear to ear ready to pick up their visitors, many of which have become regular friends, freedom from our suitcases and then that familiar drive past 'De fruit market' and 'De Juice Bar' (never saw it open once) and PennySavers where we will stop for breakfast provisions.

A good sleep then a peaceful breakfast, with no pressure to do anything but relax and breath it all in. Steve F. 8)

Straight into the sea at store bay. Swim out to the bouys, dive, grab a handful of sand from 25 feet down.

Lie back and look up at the green leaves against the blue sky... and let the swell take away all that stress!
