How Does Tobago Compare?

Can anyone who has been to Provo or Anguilla tell me how Tobago compares as far as a honeymoon destination goes? I've narrowed it down to these 3 islands...

Never been to the Turks & Caicos, so can't comment, but I must confess the northern Caribbean islands are not my favourites. I mean no offence, but they have become too Americanised.

Never stayed on Anguilla, but spent three or four hours there having a quick drive around and a snack once when we chartered a light aircraft to look for future holiday destinations. Brilliant white sand beaches, but being a coral island it is flat, scrubby and very uninteresting. Didn’t find it particularly friendly but if you want soft white sand beaches – wow!

As regards Tobago, well I’m prejudiced. Depends upon what you like, but I honestly cannot think of a more romantic place than Tobago.

Stayed for one week on Provo T.C.I in 1999. One week was enough. Sounds very much like Anguila, the bluest sea - the whitest beaches, but just about the least friendly locals in the whole of the carribean. Although just about part of the Bahamas (geographically) the atmosphere is completely different. The locals certainly don't go out of thier way to make you feel welcome! Bearly a tree on the Island, barren, sun-blistered and at times windy. Not the most picturesque spot on Gods Earth. If it's snorkelling, scuba, sportfishing, solitude and/ or beaches that you are after, then the T.C.I has them all - but Tobago has ALL of these and so much more. Tobago gets my vote! Book those flights Now.

We've stayed twice on Anguilla and loved it. Very quiet, no crime, mostly friendly locals, good diving and great dining. Down side is that it's expensive and the scenery is nowhere near as dramatic as Tobago. We've also stayed twice in Tobago and although it's much bigger, it's where we're off to again next week; voting with our feet. (and the diving is just as good, maybe better) So, if you want the height of luxury, Anguilla has more up market establishments, for scenery and more caribbean flavour we go for Tobago.

Hi George,

Debby and I cannot comment on Provo but we had a lovely time in Anguilla.

We have now been to Tobago twice since our vacation in Anguilla.

Our next Caribbean vacation will be Tobago. In fact we are considering looking for property there.

Anguilla's beaches are fabulous but Anguilla is a desert island extremely dry, relatively small and flat. Away from the immediade coastline Anguilla reminds me of the Califorrnia desert in summer.

Tobago is larger and by contrast lush, tropical, mountainous and possibly the greenest place on Earth. The variety of beaches on Tobago is amazing for so small an island. Black. white, brown, shallow, steep, calm, rough.

The food is good on both islands. English is the spoken language on both islands and both are very safe places with warm friendly people but you must slow yourself down and get used to their slow and easy, polite way of greeting when you meet and stop to chat or ask questions.

Tobago has much more varied landscape. Both are unspoiled with no giant hotels or casinos.

We are not divers but many who come to Tobago are. Apparently from what we have seen and heard it is one of the best dive destinations in the world. The first time we visited the Island we stayed in Speyside and we were the only non divers in the hotel. The swimming pool was used more for SCUBA training than swimming.

Anguilla is great but for us Tobago is paradise.
