Where should we go for our honeymoon?

Post by Jo Mills »

Hi

We have provisionally booked Lagoon Lodge for our honeymoon in April 2005.

However, reading your site has made me think twice. We have not paid any deposit as the guy said we can leave the lodge anytime we like, but I don't want our honeymoon spoiled!

Does anybody have any suggestions? Quite, romantic, relaxing - we like to eat out a lot so somewhere near some good restaurants would be ideal... I will wait to hear...!

It is a difficult one, Jo.

I know one gentleman who has been there two or three times, at least, and who can’t sing the praises of Lagoon Lodge highly enough. On the other hand, I have had two complaints from visitors who have had problems there. A local agent confirmed much the same story – some love it but others less so. A recent report did indicate that it was in need of some TLC and that the engine of the included boat/dinghy didn’t work and despite promises, was not fixed during their stay.

I should tell you that my own experiences with the owner are less than satisfactory and, in a way, endorse the visitor stories. He is apparently highly volatile. If he likes you he’ll be a wonderful host. However, if you upset his sensibilities (even without realising it), he’ll be very different.

About 18 months ago I received an email from this guy asking us to remove Lagoon Lodge from our listings. I wrote back asking why and received an abusive reply in which he said, amongst other things, that he was "pissed off" with people publishing information about Lagoon Lodge without his permission, especially when the information was wrong. Fortunately I was able to send him his reply to our request for information and which clearly showed that he had provided all the information we published (and which included his profuse thanks for the publicity). I therefore asked for an apology, but none was forthcoming. There is a twist to the story. About six months ago I received another email from him saying that he had just come across myTobago and would like to know how to get listed. Apart from anything else, he obviously hadn’t checked to see that he WAS listed. You just can’t win.

So, only you can decide whether you wish to risk it. To be honest, given the wonderful hospitality of so many Tobagonians I personally see no reason to take risks.

Hi,

If you want a very romantic, luxurious and secluded stay on Tobago you might try the brand new Hibiscus villas and appartments. Max 10-14 persons.
We stayed there for 2 weeks and loved every minute.
You should go for appartment or villa as they have the most beautiful view over Bucco-reef.
