tartre sauce

Post by Joanne Green »

Does anyone know whether tartre sauce is readily available at the more modest restaurants? My husband isn't overly fond of fish, so is quite liberal with his use of the stuff! If the answer is "No", we'll bring our own.

I don't remember seeing tartre sauce in any of the small restaurants we visited.
Having said that all the fish dishes we had came with a sauce on them and often with relishes - some quite spicy! 8)

Hi, Joanne,
I, too, love tartare sauce, primarily on fried fish. I like the fried flying fish sandwiches served in Tobago, and I recall always getting them with tartare sauce. So it may be available in some places.
In a pinch, mix some mayonnaise with some pickle relish, and voila!, you get something that tastes a great deal like the real thing. At the cafeteria where I work, they have those little packets of mayonnaise and relish (plus ketchup, etc.). It would be handy to bring those along as you wouldn't have to worry about spoilage.

The Kariwak Hotel and Resurant serve it with their fish salads. Its fresh and home made and is one of the best i have tasted.
