hello,
it is with great sadness that i would like to inform you all that David Watkins passed away this morning.
i know just how much he loved tobago, in fact i know the island myself because he never stopped talking about it and the people he met there.
so if you see a faint short tubby figure in a dirty bush hat paddling in the shore at sunset at castuara!!!!

Hello Keith

Knowing David, I feel I ought to reply with a quip, but to be frank, any humour or joy I might have been feeling has quickly dissipated on hearing the news. Thank you so much for sharing it with us though.

I knew that David was very ill, of course, and his contributions to this forum were sadly missed. Not having posted anything since May, I was a little concerned that things might have taken a turn for the worse. I longed to contact him, but the privacy of members is sacrosanct and so I am always very nervous about contacting people. Readers/contributors so often fall off the radar, and we never know why. Only recently I took a telephone call from a member enquiring about another member we haven't heard from in a long time (I'm looking at you, Carol T).

On behalf of our readership, please pass our most sincere condolences to the family. I know he won't be forgotten!

It's been a long time since I've posted on this forum as we will probably not visit Tobago again due to difficult travel arrangements, however I do check in regularly to see what is going on.

I had the pleasure of chatting back and forth with David when I was a regular poster and the even greater pleasure of meeting him personally on our second trip when we stayed a few days in Castara.

David was quite the character and will be missed by many who liked his eccentric and lovable ways.

RIP David

Keith,
I never got the opportunity to meet David and I'm truly sorry for that. It was always a pleasure to log on to MyTobago and read David's latest comments.. witty, sometimes outrageous comments!
My thoughts to his family,
Carol

Last Sunday I had my laptop on and something drew me to look at this forum again. The first thing I saw was this post.

I'm very sad to hear about David. I remember his passionate love of Tobago, and his native Cornwall, and his pride at being a true Cornishman. I also remember with great fondness his intelligence and wit, and how much I would enjoy exchanging banter with him.

Rest in peace David.
My book about Tobago:'Caribbean Capers and Tropical Tantrums' is available on Amazon and my new book 'Who Stole Nan's Knickers?' is on http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=3213879

I was saddened to hear of the death of David, before my first visit to Castara, and indeed Tobago, he passed on some good info and tips about various things. Sadly my only contact with him was on here. I missed him by 2 days on my first visit. Rest in peace David. Your memory, wit and tips live on in this forum.

Not many here in Castara were aware of David's passing.

He was Father Christmas to the children here and they were wondering where he had gone.
