Hi Tara

To get the best out of the forum, it's important to look for answers and post questions in the right forum. So, I've moved your question to the Accommodation Forums - General Accommodation Questions.

If you look through this forum, or use the Search facility at the top of the page, you will find lots of comment on Castara Retreats - all of it good.

Hello Tara

You will find lots of reviews on Castara Retreats (including mine) on the forum and I suggest you follow Steve's advice and check these out.

I saw your earlier post and would make the following comments.
If you want a really untouristy village to stay in, I you could consider either Speyside or Castara. However, be aware there is no entertainment or sophistication and you will be a considerable distance from banks, supermarkets, hotels, bars etc. My own children are now (very) grown up but I remember they really enjoyed having a swimming pool when on holiday. You will be unlikely to find accommodation with a swimming pool in these villages.

Castara Retreats is absolutely wonderful and exceeded our expectations. However I am not sure it is entirely suitable for 3 young children. The largest apartment, Rainforest, is spectacular, but sleeps I think a maximum of 4 (see website). The whole property is on a steep hillside, so there would be no area where the children could run about freely. The people who stay in Castara Retreats tend to be independent couples - certainly there were no children there when we stayed in March. Having said that, Steve and Sue who own the property have a little girl who obviously thrives on her frequent visits. If your children would be happy with no access to television, computers, hamburgers and chips etc, then Castara might be the right choice for you. The Castara beaches are very lovely and there is a lifeguard on one of them.

Another possibility to consider would be the Blue Waters Inn at Speyside - lovely calm beach and self-catering accommodation. I hope you make the right choice - Tobago is certainly a wonderful place.

general accommodation questions- castara retreats

We have recently come back from castara retreats so can answer any questions. We have posted on this board so it is worth doing a search. We have two boys aged 12 and 10 and they loved it. We stayed in the rainforest lodge. The boys love wildlife and snorkelling. there was a family with teenagers staying in the appartment below these were opened up to make one big appartment. The boys played with the neighbour ( Duck)s children aged 4 and 5. there were lots of families on little beach at easter. The track would be steep with a buggy. Anything you want to know please ask. We found the currents on the main beach quite strong.Little bay had some big waves but was more gentle
