Just returned from Tobago:now a confimed Tobagonite!!

Post by Julia Wilkes »

Hello-again.We have just returned from our 2 week trip to Tobago and none of my fears materialised!! Everything was above and beyond our expectations. We flew with Excel airways and the flight and crew were excellent. Our first 4 nights were spent at the Kariwak where the staff were SO friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Our room was spotless and the gardens there are just beautiful. We ate at the hotel every evening and the standard of cuisine was superb. The owner,Cynthia was always available and very involved with all aspects of her hotel. After 2 days we started to lose all sense of time and were really relaxed. Then we moved north to the BWI in Speyside.Quite a different type of hotel in a truly spectacular location. The manager Dwayne introduced himself and hoped our stay there would be a memorable one.The rooms there were clean and had just been freshly painted. We ate at the bar (evenings) and the Flying Fish sandwiches went down a treat!! Too much seen while snorkelling to list here, but have to mention the fact that we saw 2 Hawksbill/Green turtles.
After 6 nights here we returned to the Kariwak where we were greeted as long-time friends. We had hired a jeep through Yes Tourism who were very helpful, and were glad we did, as we were able to see much more of the island, many bays and the glorious rain forest scenery as mentioned on this site.Great weather, some showers but nothing to spoil our holiday.
We did go to Pigeon Point but would not go again-how beautiful it must have been before the fast food outlets etc.
Steve,-whilst at the airport I was chatting to one of the' Sesame seed bar ladies 'and was agreeing with her about the awfulness of the barbed wire around the outside of the Coco Reef hotel and she told me the same thing was likely to happen at Black Rock what can be done?
All our expectations of Tobago were realised - friendly people, wonderful scenery and incredible wildlife, birds, butterflies, reptiles and fish.

Hi Julia

Welcome back! I'm so glad you had a great holiday.

Yes, I totally agree that the barbed wire must be an eyesore. I confess I haven't seen it myself. You don't see it in or around the hotel and believe its probably only evident from within Store Bay or Pigeon Points - two places I never visit for obvious reasons. I don't know what she means by it happening at Black Rock though. Where in Black Rock and why?
