Also, how easy is it to get to Trinidad for the day? Does anyone recommend this and is it safe? Thanks :)

Trinidad is easy to get to from Tobago via Tobago Express or BWIA airlines - flights are very regular (14 flights each way on Tobago Express), and reasonably-priced at TT$100 (approx. 10UKP) each way.

A day trip is definitely possible - many of the tour reps and local tour operators offer a fully-inclusive day trip to Trinidad and this might well be the best option as you will get to see some of the "highlights" of Trinidad without the hassle of trying to get your own transport / navigate around, and has the added bonus of a knowledgable guide who can also steer you clear of the areas where security is likely to be more of a problem. By the time you have added all the costs together these tours normally work out to be more economical too.

While kidnapping is a problem in Trinidad, tourists tend not to be at risk... relatives of local wealthy business people are the usual target. Trinidad is a busy, bustling place where the best advice is to exercise the same caution you would in any large urban area such as London - don't carry all your valuables, keep your bags in sight, don't flash too much cash, etc.

Trinidad is a vibrant, populous island that is quite a contrast to Tobago, and shows the other side of the sister islands... if you do visit I am sure will find it fascinating.
