Usage Mobile Phones in Tobago

Hello Chris,
Dual-band works in T&T, but your mobile phone provider in Germany needs to have a "roaming partner" there if you want to be able to use your mobile phone to make calls, etc.
I made sure about that but I was disappointed that although I could send SMS (text messages) to anyone, the only ones I received were from people whose provider also had roaming partners in Trinidad & Tobago. I was able to call anyone at any time, though.
Hope this helps....

cell phones
My hubby's worked and mine didn't. Go figure!! Same service provider and his is about 7 years old and mine is brand new. I think his is analog and mine is dig. So....the older analog phones seem to work better. We called all the way to Vancouver Island with his!!
Cheers!

Hi Bryn,
Now that's strange. Because I bought a new phone (digital) just before I left for Tobago and it worked fine (to Europe) except for not being able to receive those text messages from people whose provider had no roaming partners in T&T. So I thought it was a provider problem as opposed to the age of the telephone. Hmmm. Is there anyone else who can enlighten us?
On another note. I'm skipping my annual trip to Vancouver (and the Island) this year because I'm saving up to get back to Tobago ASAP! Getting hooked???!!!
Chris,
You're welcome - although it sounds like you already have had experience in Jamaica. Only three more weeks. Wow. Enjoy your stay!

Mobile phones
You'll find plenty of people around Tobago - including locals - using new digital phones... the GSM service is relatively new here and has been a bit patchy but has improved recently with the installation of more transmitters around the island. (Although if you are staying in CocoReef you will still have to go out to the car park to get a signal!
Sometimes certain makes and models of phones seem to have more reception problems than others here. If you have a roaming system set up you should be fine...
