Trinidad to Tobago
Thanks for this fantastic and helpful website. We will be arriving in Trinidad on Sept 26 at 8:12pm on the American Eagle flight. Does anyone know if the Tobago Express or any other carrier goes that late in the evening?

Hi Maryalice
Welcome aboard!
I don't know the exact schedules of Tobago Express, but I believe there are flights very much later than 8pm. You would be advised to book a flight at least two hours after your estimated time of arrival though, to allow for delays and baggage and immigration/customs clearance in Trinidad (but at least you won't need to go through all that on arrival in Tobago). I think the last flight is after 10pm, so you should be OK.

Hi, maryalice,
As a fellow Bay Stater, we've had to make that connection many times. While there have been articles in the Tobago News newpaper saying that one day Tobago Express might have later flights, it doesn't seem to have happened yet if the Tobago Express website is accurate. According to the TE website:
http://sutra111.airkiosk.com/cgi-bin/tabx/181002i
the last flight leaves POS at 21:15, which is 9:15 p.m. (Don't everybody laugh if I've got my arithmetic wrong, please. I rarely deal with military time.)
American Airlines occasionally has early morning flights on Saturdays that fly nonstop from New York City to POS, arriving about 1:15 p.m. and allowing plenty of time to get to Tobago. You are probably going through San Juan? You'd have to have fantastic speed through immigration to make that 9:15 flight.
If you must overnight in Trinidad, we have found what may be the only clean hotel near the airport. It is called "Piarco International Hotel," and I learned about it from a BWIA flight attendant. It is newer, has clean, basic rooms, good security, a small pool in the courtyard, and a restaurant/bar that stays open until about 11 p.m., in case you only got a bag of pretzels on the plane. Doubles are about US$120. A van will pick you up and drop you off at the airport. It used to have a website, which now seems to be defunct. If you can't find the telephone number on a google search, let me know and I'll find it for you. We will be staying there for the third time in February.
If anybody knows that Tobago Express has expanded its late-evening offerings, I'd really like to know about it. I'd rather hop right over to Tobago, rather than overnighting in POS.

Info on POS to TAB late evening
Many thanks to Steve and Cornelia for helpful info. Being in Gloucester we are almost neighbors to Cornelia. I am in the process of trying to call Tobago Express to purchase that 21:15 flight - being the optimist that I am. If that does not work out I am grateful for the info on the Piarco Hotel as a backup. I wll certianly let you know if I find additional info on late flights.

Howdy, Neighbor,
One thing working in your favor is that you'll be on an American Eagle flight. In my experience, these have been smaller prop planes, so you won't be elbowing hundreds of other passengers to get to the head of the customs line. (There used to be nonstop American Eagle flights from San Juan directly to Tobago -- oh, the good old days.) When you get to the customs area, go to the counters at the far end of the room (but not the very last one, which, as I remember, is for flight crews and diplomats -- but then I'm assuming you are not a diplomat!) The closer counters are for T&T citizens. This tip may get you ahead of a person or two.
Also, because your plane is likely smaller than usual, you may not have as long of a wait for your luggage. So maybe you can make it!
Our flight in February is a jet from Miami, which arrives an hour later than your flight. So another overnight in Trinidad. Which really isn't that bad as we catch the first morning flight to Tobago and have the whole day there.
Bon voyage.
P.S. For trivia buffs, MaryAlice is from the Massachusetts town where the doomed fishing boat in "The Perfect Storm" took off from.
