Melange

Post by Martin Shutkever »

Hello all.

We were fortunate to have visited Tobago in 2003 and hope to go again in 2005.

Some of the best meals we had were at Melange - a smallish owner-run colonial style house near the golf-course. I don't see any references to it on this site (at first glance) so I would be interested to know if it is still there and still good.

Thanks for any info.

Hello Martin

Welcome aboard!

Fear not, Melange are still there and running. In fact they opened the property immediately next door as an Indian restaurant.

Have a look at our Restaurants listing (Food & Drink menu above). I must confess that it seems to get very few comments and those reports I've heard have been limited. I tried it just the once during our last trip. All three of us agreed that the meal was adequate/good, although the overall feeling was they they were trying too hard to be something they weren't and didn't quite hit the mark. The wine list was very limited and expensive, serving nothing but variations of the same mediocre stuff and giving the impression that they knew very little about wine.

I haven't heard a single report about their Indian restaurant, Lutchman Choula. Pity, becuase Tobago really needs a good Indian restaurant and I'm dying to know what it's like before my next trip.

The Indian next to Melange

Post by Mathew Scott »

Steve,

We went to Melange twice on our last visit, (March 2004) and as you say, found it acceptable but nothing too special. However the Indian was first class, though empty. I don't think that it had been open very long..... It was also considerably cheaper than Melange, but this of course could be penetrative pricing.
