How feasible is it to just arrive at the airport from a shuttle fight from trinidad and find some accom. on the day? Similarly if one arrives via the ferry? Anyone heard of 'Golden Palace' at Castara recommended oftern on the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree?

Hi Dominic
The number of guest beds far outweighs the airlift, so you'll always be able to find accommodation on Tobago - it may just not be your first choice. I can find no trace of the Golden Palace in Castara - so please let me know if you find out that it's still operational and we'll add it to our lists. Castara is a lovely, but tiny, fishing village. All accommodation there is basic self-catering - there are no hotels.

Thanks very much Steve. I guess I was interested in whether you will find operators waiting at the airport/ferry terminal touting for business from arrivals, as you often find in Asia/South America. Presumably then it is easy enough to take the bus to town and wander around checking out different places? Your website is absolutely fantastic and be assurred when we are over there after the WI v Aust test match we shall tell all about mytobago.com. One thing you might like to check however is the links from your total accommodation list to the more detailed info. Occasionally the links don't work or go to a different property. Also in a number of instances your indicated price range is not completely accurate. eg the list might show $ but the detail shows it should have been say $$$etc. Please do not take this as criticism as this is by far the best site we have come across for the Caribbean or anywhere else for that matter! You are mad to be doing this for free!! cheers

Hi Dominic
I have no experience of the ferry from Trinidad, but very few tourists arrive via ferry - it is a cheap but uncomfortable long journey and the airbridge is cheap and quick. I've never seen touts at the airport for hotels or accommodation. Forget about taking a bus "into town" - Scarborough is more of a large village than a town and there are no hotels within the 'town'. A substantial percentage of holiday accommodation is located within walking distance of the airport - but do not underestimate the heat. Walking around checking out hotels/guesthouse/apartments with your baggage will be no fun. If budget permits, hire a self-drive car at the airport. Your best bet by far would be to identify a few suitable properties from our main listings.
Thanks for your kind words about the site. By the way - our address is myTobago.INFO not .com (I would love to get the .com but it appears to have been bought by a speculator. Please, please let me know of any broken or misdirected links and glitches in the guide prices. Broken links are checked every month or two but I am heavily reliant on readers letting me know whenever they find any errors. Thanks to everyone in advance for notifying me of any ([email protected]).
