Was really disappointed to read your recent review of Rex Turtle Beach. I know it is fairly basic, but I wasn't too worried as I am going with a group of friends to celebrate my 50th year. However, I am sorry that it sounds frankly neglected. I had read somewhere recently that it was due for refurbishment this year - does anyone know any details, or is it a myth? As four of us are employed in the education sector, we are not visiting until August during the school holiday. Apart from rain, what will the island be like at that time of year? Fantastic website that is working as a very good displacement activity instead of marking books!

We stayed at Rex Turtle Xmas and New Year 2001/2 and they said then that it was up for re-furb then!!?? However, re-furb or not this may only be a basic 3* but it is in a 5* location. We are going back to Great Courland Beach this Xmas and New Year 2003/4 and although not staying at the Rex this time as we have decided to go self catering, I would definatley stay there again. What it lacks in looks it makes up for in location and charm. Make sure you get a wood carving off Ruben.

I couldn't agree more with Michelle. The Rex Turtle has arguably the best beach location on the island. If you're looking for a cheap AI beach holiday, you probably will be delighted with the place.

Hi Sue,
I was interested to hear that you were going to stay at the Ocean Point in March - we are due to arrive on 27th March for two weeks - will you still be there? If not will you have had time to post a review when you get back before I go - I would be very interested to hear your opinion of the place. Perhaps you checked it out when you were there in November? It must make up for working these cold Sunday nights when you can return back to Tobago within 6 months - sounds great. Look forward to hearing from you,
Malc C

Thanks for that Sue. I'll look out for you on the 27th - if your messages are anything to go by you'll be the one at the bar that speaks quickly without pausing! You should get on well with my wife, Malc C

I can assure you that any comments or reviews that I post on myTobago and in this forum are true and honest - that is the whole reason that I created this non-commercial site. See my post "Holiday Report 2 - Hotels" on 28 January for our current opinion of the Rex Turtle. We shall be re-visiting the hotel sometime this week for a second look. The hotel have ignored our requests for a conducted tour, so we cannot comment on the accommodation - although I did have a peek in a room that was being cleaned. Basic, but adequate. Draw your own conclusions as to why the hotel does not want to show us around. Bear in mind that our comments are given without reference to price and are only made as personal opinion. The location is totally superb - one of the best on the island. This may be more important to you than faded paint and mediocre buffet meals. However, be assured that our comments are honest and truthful.
