The Almond Tree, Castara

Post by Julia C. »

I've been meaning to write about this eating place since we got back!
It was opened very recently and is run by Vera and her family. It's located at the back of the main beach between the Naturalist and the beach facilities, under an almond tree. I believe Vera previously had a Roti place further up the village.

We had lunch at there on many days and some evening meals as well. The food is very good and plentiful and Vera and her family are friendly, kind and attentive. They don't sell beer etc, but you can take your own. Vera does make some lovely drinks though, fruit punch of various sorts and a drink made from bark, I think it was called "mauby" (sp?).

Lunch could be eaten in or take-away and was usually fish, chicken or vegetarian roti. Fruit and or ice-cream for afters. Very good value.

Diner was also a chioce of fish, chicken or vegetarian and came with a large variety of local vegetables and salads. Again fruit and/or ice-cream for afters. All very tasty.

It was also a great place to sit and chat and watch the local activity - not that that's very active, being Castara! 8)

Hi Julia,
I fully agree with you on this on. We had a really nice chicken Roti there last Thursday.

Regards

The Almond Tree

We also ate at Veras new enterprise twice during our stay and on both occasions the food was very enjoyable and plentiful, we had some lovely conversations with Veras children and the warmth of the family is obvious to all who meet them.
Marishka leaves for school at 6.00 am to go to Goodwood in the morning and does not get home to late in the afternoon having almost done a circumnavigation of the island and she still finds time to sit and chat with you about your life in the UK and she is genuinely interested,
I would tell everyone who is in the area to visit as they will enjoy the food and the atmosphere.
