Marine life book

Post by Neil Roberts »

Can someone suggest a useful book for a snorkeller to assist in the identification of fish, corals, etc. Many thanks, Neil Roberts.

Hi Neil

"Snorkeling Guide to Marine Life - Florida, Caribbean, Bahamas" by Paul Humann & Ned DeLoach. Published by New World Publications. ISBN 1-878348-10-8 approx $14.95

Also, call into one of the big dive operators and buy a laminated fish guide. You can take these into the water with you.

Might be a bit late for you, but I bought an excellent softback book from Waterstones called "Reef fishes corals and invertebrates of the caribbean" by Elizabeth and LawsonWood and published by http://WWW.newhollandpublishers.com It has been excellent when filling in my dive log book.

No Chris, your advice is not too late. My enquiry was aimed at buying my wife a Xmas present. We visited Tobago for the first time during 2004 and my wife, who has snorkelled around the Med!, loved it. We are booked to visit again later this year and hence the book(s). Thank you for taking the trouble. Kind regards, Nei Roberts.

Neil,

We just bought an excellent book in Blue Waters Inn dive shop in Tobago called Reef Fish Identification: Florida Caribbean Bahamas by Paul Humann. You can also get it in the UK and read the (all 5 star) reviews on Amazon:

Thank you Steve. The way things are going, most of my luggage allowance will be the wife's books; both fish idents and her general reading. Still, anything for a quiet life!! Kind regards, Neil.
