Seven Super Sizzlers

Post by Paul Binge »

Eating out in Tobago is a real treat, if a touch expensive. Ex-pat restaurants provided excellent fare, but we would have liked more mid-priced options, run by Tobagans. However, Friday night BBQ at the Cat & Fiddle was the best value meal we had, and very tasty too!

Our recommendations, in no particular order, are:

The Seahorse Inn - Great setting, good food & wine and friendly service, particularly at lunchtime

Kariwak Village - A four course set menu, beautifully presented, with the best rum punch on the island. Must book ahead though.

Bonkers - Don't be put off by the name. This restaurant provided a different menu to many others. Well worth a visit.

Dillons - Quiet on the night we visited but with great fish. Good service, locally run.

Pelican Reef - Great live music, excellent service. Lobster and steak were good. Fairly pricey but well worth it. The enormous slice of chocolate gateau finished me off!

Shirvan Watermill - Picturesque setting, quiet when we visited, found the staff somewhat surly, limited wine list but good food, although pricey.

Indigo - Ate here twice (evening), both the Irish owner and her staff were attentive. Varied menu, relaxed setting. Would highly recommend.

Don't go all-inclusive, sample the local fare and support the island's economy. Enjoy!
