Swimming at Coco Reef

Post by Pat B »

After many trips to Barbados, considering booking Coco Reef. From photos the sea looks very shallow. Although not strong swimmers both myself and husband like to have a 'swim' rather than just paddling/wading. Is this possible within the sea walls? Also can you drink the local tap water as you can in Barbados?

Best wishes Pat

Hi Pat

Welcome aboard!

Yes, the water within the seawall at the Coco Reef is protected, shallow (probably 2.5-3 metres at the deepest) and very calm. You can, however, swim out through one of the two access entrances into Cable Bay where you can swim in the "real" sea. Highly recommended - speaking from personal experience.

Yes, the local tap water can be drunk safely. I regularly do so without any problem but those with sensitive stomachs may prefer to stick to bottled water.

Hi Steve

Thank you for your fast reply. Highly likely we will be booking soon. We did visit Tobago once before about 13 years ago and stayed at Mount Irvine. We have lots of happy memories of that visit. I expect we will see some changes, not too many I hope! Again thanks for your quick response.

Best wishes Pat
