Diving at Christmas/New Year

Post by Antoinet L. »

On Christmas Day we will be leaving for our first visit to Tobago, where we will be staying at the Inn on the Bay at Lambeau.
Can anybody recommend a good dive centre? We need to hire BCD, air tank and weights. We got our Open Water last summer and have since then done about 15 dives at the Dutch Antilles, so fairly new to diving. At Bonaire we did most of our dives from the shore. Do you have the possibility of shore-diving at Tobago?

Hi Antoinet,
Welcome to MyTobago.
I think the closest dive centre is World of Watersports at the Hilton which is about 5 minutes in a taxi, I've not dived with them but I have read some good reports and they have some good dive guides. If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, well about 15 minutes, my recommendation would be Undersea Tobago at Coco Reef Derek Chung who runs the centre really knows his stuff.
Almost all the diving in Tobago is boat diving, I have been going for a few years and never done a shore dive yet, but don't let that worry you, if you let the guide know you've done much boat diving the will explain what you need to do on the entry and exits and it beats lugging gear up and down beaches any day.

If you look back a bit in this section I posted a dive report for October and that will give you some idea of what you can look forward too.

Have a great Christmas

May I suggest R & SEA diving, tel no. 868 639 8120. They will pick you up from your hotel and bring you back. Staff are very friendly and equipment is first class.

Shore diving is available at Kariwak Reef, off Shore Bay.

Enjoy your diving.
