Only five days to go

and a sudden thought has struck.
Does Excel sell proper drink on the flight or do I have to take my own Gin?

Last year I flew with Virgin and they were a bit tight with the wine.

But this year ... it's Excel and I am just as concerned as you.

I'm taking some Port ... helps me sleep because I hate flying.

Whatever's left will be shared with my fellow party-goers on arrival in Castara in 18 days.

Best not tell anyone then hey Paul, as I don't think that you are permitted to drink alcohol on a plane unless it was purchased on board?

Well it's not like I can bob off down the road and buy my Port if the airline doesn't provide it.

Anyway ... Virgin/BA provide wine for free ... not sure about Excel but if they follow the competitors example I am sure it cannot be an issue if I buy my own.

I will let you know how I manage

When we left Port of Spain yesterday, we had a few extra TTs, so what did we buy at the duty-free store? A bottle of that fancy Trinidad rum made by Angostura, and four miniature bottles of Johnny Walker Black, which we thought we'd use medicinally on our flight from Miami to Boston (the miniatures, not the fifth of rum).
As luck (or lack of it) would have it, about five minutes into the flight, the flight attendant announced that it is illegal to consume alcohol not purchased from the airline. Had they read our minds? Did we look guilty as we boarded?
This was American Airlines, so I don't know whether it's a U.S. or international law.

Oh dear - hadn't thought about this one cos had assumed that wine (at least drinkable would be available) so....

when do we break out with the unmentionables on the flight on Sunday ????? are you also flying Excel from the dreaded Gatwick???? Let's hope the snow doesn't delay us

Paul - come on weather guru is the snow going to dump so much we're not going to be able to get off the ground ????? Hope not, otherwise those of us who have unmentionables within our 'personal' baggage may find ourselves having to use these on the floor of South Terminal?????

I can see you all scurrying around trying to find your hip flasks now, and pre-mixing the rum'n'coke in a plain Pepsi bottle. Surely nobody would do that?

I reckon the weather should be OK by Sunday ... not good, but not as bad as it will be for Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Otherwise the 'unmentionables' could come in handy to warm you up.

Perhaps it would be appropriate if we give a moments thought to those poor souls returning to this frozen tundra.

here's to a pre-boarding (stiff) drink in miami and to he-- with worrying about paying for drinks on the American Airlines flight. i'll buy the whole lot a drink! it's our first trip to tobago, and we're arriving with rosy-red smiles on our faces.

also, we'll be arriving in may at crown point, and i noticed a picture of the airport (on this Web site -- nice shot) showing sandy point in the foreground. it didn't seem like too far of a walk. is it necessary to take a taxi from the airport to crown point if we're more than willing to walk.

I think that you will find that Excel serve booze for free to those lucky enough to travel first/premium economy but those in the cattle pen have to buy it from the trolly. I recall that someone on the plane (not me

)was told off for attempting to drink from a bottle purchased at the airport.

We will be one of those lucky ones in Premium, hate flying the boot, so we are saving money on accomadation, which we are in for two weeks to spend it on the flight which we are in for twenty hours total!!!!!!

I see Excels website says we snobs get free wine with the meal but doesn't say anything else about drink so maybe a wee sneaky hip flask is called for, travel insurance, I would say.

We flew to Australia a couple of years ago on Royal Brunei which is a Muslim airline, service was superb by the way, so they had no alcohol at all on board. However they were more than happy for you to bring your own and even kept our wine in the fridge for us.
But as you say different if they are trying to flog their overpriced booze to the punters.

Emma relax Gatwick will be fine on Sunday The flight will take off on time and arrive early after a really smooth flight and then we will get two weeks of great weather in Castara

We too have paid the extra for the flight - mainly for the comfort coming home - its never so bad on the way out because one's hyped up for the holiday, but coming home's a real downer

made more so by horrible charter flights.

See you Sunday!!!! Have you started packing yet or are you, like us, rushing to get all the work done in time!!!

Being a member of the 'snob' fraternity myself, I wonder of you are allowed to use the nice upper class lounges in the airport?

I have never been in one before and I have always stared in wonder at the entrances, imagining what could be inside.

I AM working! nearly!!! It's just that no one's available because they say they're stuck because of the snow - wimps!!!

I reckon you just brazen your way into those lounges Paul!

Neil - I'll also be the one on the plane saying to myself "It CAN fly" for the full 11 hours or so - hence the requirement for liquid refreshment and my husband Ian will be the one with grip marks on his arm!!!

same here....is it the rabbitwhole to wonderland... is it the place where nice ladies walk arround and offer you to refill your hip flask with unmentionables if you could not wait and had it in the taxi to the airport already....?

Sorry Paul unless you have a Gold or Silver airline card or are flying Business no lounge for you my lad.
Anyway all that is in there is free alcohol, free tea, free coffee and biscuits newspapers TV comfortable seats etc
So its not really worth the bother, you even have to pour your own drinks
