hi
just wanted to put anybody's mind at rest having just returned from LGC.
having read the scare stories posted elsewhere on this forum we were a bit concerned but rest assured you'll be ok!!!
not quite sure why the other people got so agitated but the hotel was fine.
everything was modern and clean (though the bathroom we had did need refurbing) and the staff were exemplary. the food was pretty good but not brilliant but i think that's par for the course for an AI resort. Drinks were good though!
tennis courts were fine, sun loungers were fine, beach was ok - not the endless golden strip you may think but quite a steep beach dotted with some pretty large rocks.
we had a good time though i'd hesitate to recommend LGC because it's not the same 4* qual as Europe/Middle East. It's probably a solid 3* but i have to say the staff were excellent.
cheers

Also just returned
Returned on April 7th after 2 weeks at Le Grand Courlan. Boy do we miss Tobago!! We had never been to the Caribbean before and both of us felt totally relaxed and chilled-out when we returned to the UK. It was a real struggle going back to work on the Monday morning.
Hubby had treated me for my 50th birthday, which was on Easter Sunday, and I was really spoilt. The staff at LGC made my day very special and throughout the whole fortnight provided excellent service with a smile. I agree with previous comments that some members of the staff are stars!!!!
We flew with Excel and had noted previous reviews about the airline. Because of these reviews Geoff paid the extra and we flew Premium, which I thought was well worth the money. Excellent flight there and back. Bit of confusion when we arrived at Tobago airport but I believe this is normal procedure. Met by Michael and he quickly hailed us a taxi who whisked us off to LGC. Greeted at hotel with a champagne cocktail which was unexpected and had the first taste of the air-conditioning in reception. Which was very welcoming!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All in all everything went smoothly. Felt a bit disappointed with the accommodation when we first saw it, but after 2 weeks it seemed like heaven. Having toured the island on several occasions, whenever we came back to LGC it seemed like we had come home. Absolutely loved the fact that LGC is 'adults only'. Visited Coco Reef on one occasion and could have strangled the 'little darlings' (English) who were staying there. Witnessed lots of Tobagoan families out and about and can honestly say that their children were extremely well behaved. Went Goat and Crab Racing on Easter Tuesday. What a laugh. Even won 18 TT dollars. Didn't know the form but just backed the names I liked.
Totally loved the beaches, quite a variety. Stonehaven Bay is not the preetiest by any means but I didn't see any dog mess there. Found bathing in the sea at Stonehaven quite invigorating to say the least. The far right hand side of the bay is probably the calmest and best to swim/snorkel in. Went to Pigeon Point for my birthday and it was a real carnival atmosphere as it was Easter Sunday. Absolutely perfect. Mr. Robinson (taxi driver) really gave us some local history. What a gent!
To summarise, I would say that if you speak to the LGC staff courteously then you get treated the same back. The spa treatments were fine, I didn't take them all but those I had were good. The accommodation is in need of a lick of paint but that is nothing to worry about. The catering in both restaurants was particularly good, bbq nights with Sharon were packed and the steak was terrific. One member of the bar staff in Breezes was a bit surly but that was all. He didn't work every night. Stacey who works in the Swim-Up Bar is a particular star. After the eighth length of the pool and four rum cocktails I was certainly ready for my sun lounger. Sun loungers were in good condition. Couldn't understand why the English were putting out towels before breakfast each day. This only happened on our second week. No problem on the first week. I was glad that I chose LGC and had not changed to Coco Reef.
