Lowlands

Post by Chris Nock »

Hello all,

I`m off to Tobago a week today for the first time :D

My wife, 2 girls(aged 4 and 9) and I are staying in a villa on the
Tobago Plantations Golf Course site and would love anyone to give
us some info on the area. We have hired a jeep for the 2 weeks so want to get out and about but what is the Lowlands area itself like ?
What are the Restaurants/Bars/shops/beach like in the actual area?

And a question from my girls..what is the sea temp like?

Thank you

Chris....an excited individual counting the minutes before departure!!!

Hi Chris,

I think you will be more than happy with the plantations estate. My wife and I stay at the Hilton and the bars there ( Palm court lounge and the Robinson Crusoe pub) are both good. Depending on occupancy they can be busy or quiet. The food in the Coral Reef Restaurant at the Hilton is excellent and there is a buffet each night in the Plantation Room.

With respect to the rest of Lowlands, since you have a jeep, you are not far from anywhere. Turn left out of the Planatations onto the highway and you are only two minutes from Crown point and all of the shops, restaurants and hotels down there. Turn right and you are 5 minutes from Scarborough.

The restaurant reviews on this site are all spot on, and again, they are all within striking distance.

The beach on the estate is on the Atlantic side, and is consequently a bit rougher and windier than the Caribbean side. The upside of that is that there is always a nice breeze to keep things a bit cooler. The beach is long and you can see pictures of it on the arial photos section of this site - pictures 20 and 21. The water temperature is fine!

Hope this helps.

Have a great holiday :D

The water temperature at the moment is a balmy 26 degrees C :D

From Plantations you are also only a few minutes away from Mount Irvine and Grange beaches on the caribbean side of the island - excellent for swimming and snorkelling and generally less crowded than Store Bay.

Also on the Shirvan Road toward Mount Irving you will find several good restaurants, but you also have an excellent Italian (Le Terraza) in the Club House on the Plantations golf course... a nice stroll away....

Enjoy!

Turn right one day and find Bacolet Bay next to the Blue Haven Hotel which is just the other side of Scarborough. Excellent beach bar and a truly beautiful spot.

Have a good trip,
Neil Roberts.

The Lowlands are nothing special (we've been staying at the Ocean Point, which is close to Plantations), but since you have a car they are an ideal base. Anywhere you want to go, the distance and travelling time is not too great. Just don't expect to walk to any of the beaches, restaurants or sights outside the ones on-site.
