myTobago COMPETITION 2006
I am delighted to announce the launch of a new myTobago prize draw competition.
The competition will run until the 31st December 2006. Most prizes can be redeemed at any time throughout 2006 and 2007.
Our list of prize donors is a veritable “who’s who” of Tobago business. I only invited participation from the very best tourism-related businesses on Tobago – businesses that I trust and am happy to recommend to readers. More than 90% of the businesses approached decided to participate and have generously donated a prize pool of 55 prizes worth some £6,000 (US$11,000).
The competition is operational NOW. The first prize draw will be on 1st July when a total of 6 prizes winners will be drawn from the correctly-answered tickets issued in May and June. After that, we will return to our normal procedure of selecting 3 winners per month until the competition closes on 31st December.
As in last year’s competition, one competition ticket will be issued for each £5 donated to myTobago.info.
So, please allow me to persuade you to show your support for this website and to make a donation and enter our 2006 Competition.

my Tobago COMPETITION
Dear All,
In the 2005 Competition I was lucky enough to win a first, a second, and third prize over the period of several months that it ran.
I am utterly delighted to say that those prizes we chose are soon to be used.
I chose an upgrade on Excel as a first prize, and GOLDEN CARIBBEAN have been extremely helpful and made the booking of a whole package to Le Grand Courlan very painless and straightforward. My thanks to them for offering the prize.
My next prize is 3 days car hire from SHEPPY, who replied immediately to an email and has given us a great deal for the rest of the stay as well. My grateful thanks for his support of the competition.
We also won an island trip with YES TOURISM. It goes without saying that Patrick and Tanja were on the case straight away. I am thrilled to be 'triping' with them again. Well done and thanks for supporting myTobago.
STEVE thank you and I commend you most highly for putting this all together. It is the most wonderful way to be encouraging people to get back to Tobago.
Well done and thank you to all the businesses who supported in 2005, and to those who will support in 2006
I WILL MOST DEFINITELY BE ENTERING AGAIN THIS YEAR AND I HOPE EVERYONE OUT THERE READING THIS DOES THE SAME.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND THANK YOU STEVE
Regards and very best wishes
James

Hi James
Good to hear from you again. I was wondering if you'd ever managed to organise that trip.
Thanks for your SUBSTANTIAL support in 2005. I just wish I had your amount of luck. Without being funny, it almost got embarassing seeing your name in the prize list so often. Just helps to reinforce my philosophy in life that you get back in life what you put into it.
Good luck with your trip and please be sure to file reports on every part of your trip when you get back.
p.s. You're pulling my leg when you say that Sheppy replied immediately, aren't you? I love him to bits, but replying to emails promptly is not normally his bag. Especially now since his invaluable assistant Rita is off having given birth to her first child, a baby daughter, last Tuesday. CONGRATULATIONS RITA.

Competition
Steve,
Thank you for the kind words.
I admit it was becoming a bit embarrassing and only a week or so ago I was close to chucking the lovely prizes back to you, with the outlook to escape to Tobago bleak.
I am delighted that we have managed to sneak a week in June. It should be fun, as we will be there when T and T play England in the World Cup. That could get interesting if T and T could get a draw or even win!
We are looking forward to visiting the helpers from the T&TSPCA animal shelter, who did such a marvellous job in nursing our 2 Tobagonian mongrels. They have turned out, since my last post about them, to be the most wonderful, contented and loyal pets you could imagine.
Having decided that a villa for two was a little impractical for the week, it was your excellent review of Le Grand Courlan that helped my decision, particularly the bit about under 16's and loving your children etc but...
I will be pleased to report back in due course, thank you again, and I kid you not Sheppy came back very promptly!
cheers
James

Steve,
It says in the write up about the new competition on the myTobago site that the first drawing is June 1st and the prizes must be redeemed by 12/31/2006. Your post here that I am replying to says that the first drawing is July 1st and the prizes good thru 2007. Which is correct; your posting in the forum or what is showing on the website? We're coming down in Jan 07 and I hope to win a prize that can be used then

Hi Bill
Thanks for pointing that out. I have amended the competition introductory page. Let me confirm that the first prize draw of six winners will be on 1st July next and will cover tickets issued between last weekend and 30th June. Prize won in the competition can be redeemed at any time between the winning ticket being drawn and the end of next year, except and unless other redemption dates or restrictions are mentioned in the listing of the prize.
Good luck!

I am delighted to announce the addition of another prize in our Competition.
Ciao Cafe have come aboard with the offer of two prizes, each for vouchers worth TT$150 which the winners can spend on the cafe's wonderful range of genuine Italian home-made ice cream, cakes and Illy espresso and capuccino coffee. As regular readers will know, I have long said that the best reason for visiting Scarborough was for a cup of coffee at Ciao Cafe (not forgetting the ice cream and cake).

And they keep rolling in....
A new, but highly regarded, service to Tobago. Terrence Baynes runs a new service called Trail Dogz. They offer on-road/off-road motorcycle tours of the island. Terrence has offered a full island tour for two lucky winners able to ride yamaha DT175 trail bikes.
Come on folks. Roll up! Roll up! May has been dreadfully slow. Mind you, so has the site generally as evidenced by the lack of posts. Its that general hiatus between the end of one season and the start of another and the site only really comes into its own from around September when everyone starts planning their next Winter holiday to Tobago.
However, don't forget that the fewer the number of tickets issued, the higher your own chances of winning.

As I said, they keep rolling in....
Another late, but most welcome, arrival to our competition prize pool is a romantic Sunset Sailing charter for two lucky people.
Sand Dollar Sailing Charters have been operational in Trinidad & Tobago for some years. It is a partnership between and English captain and a German captain, both who own 35-foot sailing yachts. Gary is based in Trinidad (but comes over as necessary) while Markus is based in Tobago. Many readers will remember Markus - he was a captain at Kalina Cats for many years and until it closed before changing hands a couple of years ago.
Sand Dollar are a bit different from the other sailing charters available in Tobago. They will very much appeal to amateur sailors and yachtsmen because during normal day/weekend/extended charters, the passengers become the crew and are encouraged to get "hands on".
The Sunset Cruise offered as a prize here is a little different (although you will be welcome to get 'stuck in' if you want to). This will be just the lucky couple and Markus enjoying a 3-hour cruise along the Caribbean coast.
Come on - what are you waiting for?

As at this moment, only 98 tickets have been issued, so your chances of winning are REAL. Don't delay!!!!

I am delighted to announce that the SIX winners for May/June have just been drawn.
Full details are available in the Competition pages at http://www.myTobago.info/competition.php
First place goes to a regular contributor on fishing matters - Stephen Hull. His regular updates make it clear that he is actually on Tobago at the moment and could, as I type this, be out on an early morning fishing trip. I don't know how long you're there for Stephen, but pick your prize and it can hopefully be yours before you leave. Or, maybe you need an excuse to come back next year?
I am also particularly pleased to see another regular in the form of Gisela Grell from Germany. Thanks Gisela. (If I could influence the draw, which I can't because its all done electronically, I would have wanted to see your name in there in view of your unfailing continued generous support every month).
Only 110 tickets were issued for this combined draw, possibly reflecting the very slack summer that Tobago (and the forum) are experiencing. So, come on folks, there's just 4 weeks until the next prize draw but there will still be over 50 worthwhile prizes on offer.

Grovel, grovel, grovel
Sorry David, but for some reason I just didn't see your name in the list of prize winners. I'm obviously delighted that such a regular - to both Tobago and this site - is near the top of the list. My apologies for not mentioning you above. The notification email I get sent by the prize-draw program listed you as 'Da Watkins' - it must have been the name you entered on the winning donation - and I just didn't twig.
Just to clarify one query I received earlier from a reader, may I confirm to everyone that although no single donor may win more than one prize in any one month, there is no limit to the number of months anyone can either enter or win prizes in. Good luck everyone !!!!!!

Dear Steve,
thank you so much for this prize! I can't believe I won again! But with only 110 tickets I had a good chance to win! Can't believe that people don't support this site more. It gives so much to all the Togabo Nuts and should be given something back.
Come on folks! What are you waiting for? You can support this site and you also have the chance to win a wonderful prize! Only 5 punds!
A lucky winner!
Cheers

The winners of our first 2006 monthly prize draw have now selected their prizes, the database has been updated and the Competition pages (menu: Welcome/Competition) show the full list of prizes still available - and you're still spoiled for choice!!!
I am also delighted to say that having written to KCNN telling them that one of the winners has chosen their prize of a week's rental of a car, they promptly replied offering two further prizes - a 3-day hire of a car and a third prize of a 2-day hire of a Jimny Jeep. THANK YOU KCNN.
So, roll up, roll up, roll up. There's just 14 days left to get your tickets for the July competition.

My sincere apologies, everyone - the July competition was accidentally run a few hours early.
The selection process is all done by the machine. Last year, Rachel Harries kindly intiated the prize draws each month, but in truth that was simply a matter of calling up a program, which checks the answers, randomly selects the winners and notifies everyone concerned.
I am introducing real-time online processing of credit/debit card within the next day or two and so instead of having to wait to manually process any credit card charges made during the last evening, am now in a position to let the system initiate the prize draw as soon as the old month closes. I had made the final changes earlier this afternoon and set everything to "live". Then, this silly old fart went and refreshed a browser page that had been asking for final confirmation before manually running the prize draw. Silly idiot. My only excuse was that I'd been at my desk since 7am this morning and was going a bit loopy. I started to write a letter of apology to the prize winners, but then felt that it was a fair and square draw - just nine hours earlier than it would have been.
So, my congratulations to the winners (I think that lucky sod Stephen Hull is still on Tobago) but my apologies to anyone who had hoped to get tickets for the July draw this evening.
