Restaurants April 2006

Post by Anthony Townsend »

Hi!

Thought I'd better get round to posting info about our visit!

We had some delicious food and I would suggest try everything. You never know you might like it! Our kids woke at first light and fell asleep in most of the restaurants we went to. We didn't get to have dessert very often.

House of Pancakes We started off here for breakfast on the first day and went back a few times. Good food and friendly service. As with many places it follows 'Trini time' so don't expect the opening hours to be followed. Definitely worth a visit.

Shore Things We visited for luch a couple of times. Nice location to chill out and good food and fruit juices. The most friendly and helpful service and good for gifts, though you might get some cheaper elsewhere.

Kariwak Village We heard great things, but ended up being disappointed for lunch. Food was average and service poor. I am addicted to the ginger beer. If you like ginger, it's strong! We were shocked, and we returned for dinner another day. What a transformation. Great service and food. I would ignore the first visit and I will go back next time. Everyone recommends it.

Eddie's Restaurant Lunch in Scarborough. I wanted to try some local food and I think this was it! We stuck out a little bit, but everyone was very friendly. You pay first and then queue up for your food having selected it from the boards. We tried a bit of a selection, which they found a bit amusing. The food was great and if you want to eat with the locals at lunchtime this is for you. It isn't a great location and don't expect anything more than a fast food environment. An experience!

Bamboo Mile Very close to us. Enjoyed the food and will go back. Good fish and the kids liked it a lot.

Seahorse Inn Delicious food, but you do pay for it. Great location close to the sea. We visited for our wedding anniversary.

Arnos Waterwheel bar Not the restaurant, which I understand to be good. The worst bar I have ever visited! No Coke, no juices, cracked glasses, poor service, overcharged, filthy. I could go on!

Arnos Vale Hotel Afternoon tea was good watching the birds at the feeders. One very friendly parrot that will climb all over you and another which has a taste for fingers! Will go back, but watch out for the mossies! I was eaten alive whilst standing inside having a chat!!

Bluewaters Inn We all enjoyed our meals here.

Jemma's Treehouse Had a great time. Fun listening to them explaining to an American guy that you selected the type of meat etc. and everything else comes with it. He was on a loser before he started. Don't pick a fight here! Great food and lots of it.

Sharon and Pheebs I dare you not to be tempted to have another Flying fish sandwich. Great value.

Bonkers Absolutely packed! Really good with the kids and enjoyed the food.

Ciao cafe A must if you require a caffeine hit, but didn't live up to the hype. Good cakes and ice cream, but may be we were led to expect more by the site. Do go though!

Vie de France Good for breakfast and if you are waiting for the plane home. Good spot for more caffeine!

Store Bay Beach Picked a bad day. Had to go to nearly all the huts to get what we wanted. I love the food! Can't wait to go back.

La Tartaruga Really wanted to go, but I think they were closed. Message on the phone for two weeks and always shut when we went past.

Don't forget two places to get good juice. Firstly just before you descend to Speyside. Drink fresh juice and enjoy the view. Secondly, our favourite was the Riverside Juice bar on the edge of Roxborough on the road to Parlatuvier.

Hope this helps. Our kids are 8 and 5, and can be quite difficult. Everywhere was happy to accomodate and adapt.

Have a great time if you are visiting soon and we are booked to go back next year.

Anthony.
