Continental have direct flights but only to POS and i understand from reading your site that people on flights after 7pm must stay night in trinidad, however the return flight is 8.10am, first flight out of tobago is it 6am will she make it or does it mean she will have to spend a night each way in trinidad????
hope this makes sense...its been a hectic day!

Hi Rebecca,
honestly, I would not take the risk. I went to Miami last week and almost did not make it because of a delayed Tobago Express flight.

I agree with Patrick. Have your friend plan to overnight both coming & going. Leo's Place is very affordable & clean & Leo will pick up & drop off. He's 5 min. from airport. He's listed on the information section of this website under transportation.

I know what you mean, Rebecca. We've run into the same problem coming in from Phoenix through Houston to Trinidad. First, we were going to arrive at 7:23 and catch the last Tobago Express flight at 9:15, but it got canceled so we have to overnight. Then our flight back from Trinidad got moved from from 7:45 to 8:15, so no chance on meeting that connection....another overnight in Trinidad. Luckily, Continental allowed us to change our flight to the following day with no charge so we didn't lose a day in Tobago. I wish the US flights would coordinate better, it certainly would encourage more travellers.

Fly AA through Miami.

Post by Hugh S »

AA has a flight from Miami that arrives POS at 2:30 pm and a return at 3:15 pm most days. So your choice is to overnight either in Miami or POS on the return.

Of course you must take the red-eye into Miami outbound and if you stilll want the 8:00 am flight POS to MIA you will have to stay overnight in Trinidad.

Good luck. I hope this situation improves. We were faked out by Delta (see my other post). We were very excited about being able to fly directly into Tobago.

Getting to and from Tobago via Trinidad is a royal pain for everyone in North America, it would seem. Our flights generally arrive between 7 and 10 p.m., which means an overnight in Trinidad. Our homeward flights generally leave between 8 and 10 a.m., which has usually allowed us to spend the previous night on Tobago.

However, in January 2006 I had my group at Crown Point Airport at 4:30 a.m. (dark as pitch!) for the 6 a.m. flight, which was cancelled. No problem -- our fallback was the 7 a.m. flight. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive until almost 8 a.m., which caused 8 of the 10 people to miss their international connections. Several of the people had to spend another night in Trinidad.

Granted that this situation might have been exceptional, but don't depend on international flights waiting for delayed flights from Tobago as they once did. I still take the calculated risk of overnighting in Tobago the night before, but my clients have the option of spending the last night in Trinidad if they so choose.

How I long for the days when these flights stopped in Trinidad to allow passengers to disembark and then ended the night at Crown Point.
