long haul flight
Hello
I was wondering if anyone can help, we are off to Tobago in October and I have kind of badgered my partner into the idea as previously the longest flight he could cope with is approx 4 hours as he is very active and tends to get bored sat too long. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to cope with boredom, it is a day time flight so doubt if sleeping will be possible. Probably think our 10 year old so will cope better!!

Hi Judith,
Sometimes the films are worth watching (and sometimes not!). Books, Ipod, MP3, portable DVD player, Magazines.........! I try to get up and walk about a bit too - got to prevent the DVT - and then you will keep having food placed in front of you (most of it edible!).
Actually - I do usually sleep even on a daytime flight (it must be the soothing sound from engines). Just keep your fingers crossed that your near neighbours aren't noisy.
And anyway - it may be 10ish hours - but look where you end up. Worth it isn't it!

Hi Jane
Thanks for reply, I'm sure it'll be fine although 8 weeks away I have started to panick abit!! But as you say the long flight will definately be worth it and I can't wait its so exciting. Was thinking of getting him some sleeping tablets or maybe even some really strong alcohol that should knock him out! Not sure its a good idea to start drinking at 9am though!

Why not take some colouring books and crayons, or some comics and there's always 'I spy with my little eye'.
Then if your hubby gets bored with these you could always ask your 10 year old if Dad can borrow the iPod and portable DVD player
Take only photos - leave only footprints. I like that concept.

You can picture it now hubby and son fighting over colouring items!! i never have a problem sleeping so shall carry on and let them sort themselves out! Have booked through Tropical Sky and am waiting for an answer as to whether we can upgrade to xlone as i thought this might help, although not too sure what the extra cost would be

Yes I can imagine David, how long is it till you go? we've got 7 weeks this thursday, and already making plans for car hire so hopefully we'll be able to see the 'hidden' tobago, along with lots of snorkelling, sampling the local food and maybe some drink (we've heard the rum and coconut milk is one to try), and of course the rain forest. Although slightly worried about the mossies as my son seems to get bitten badly but have read all the relevant sites and will be armed with lots of medication!

you bed is made, david
give him a guide book and an empty diary as a present beginning of the flight and give him the tast to plan out your holiday...(don't tell him you got all the important information here already, ha-ha)... don't men love to plan and rule around the family?
have a safe trip

the one that is researchec very well (we meet the guy in tobago and he had a million questions) and also the one that other books copy from is the rough-guide. if you want to invest a bit more and want him to read about history and stuff as well the APA-guide was always great...
have fun giving hiim some "homework" to do

Good idea i think Michelle, I wish we had done more research before we booked coco reef resort, the travel agent told us the flights were getting booked! (good sales pitch) so we rushed and booked it (AI) thinking prices for food and drink were expensive.
Our doctor said it wasn't necessary to have injections but i think i will ask to see another gp and get a second opinion.
Thanks Steph I will be taking you up on your recommendation.

Hi Judith,
A wise old philosopher said that you can't drink all day unless you start as soon as you get up in the morning
You also could threaten to trade your husband in for one of your sons 10 year old friends; they'll keep each other amused and you won't have to put up with any c**p from anyone
