Beach Fishing

Post by JohnC »

Hi Everyone,
I will be staying at LeGrand Courland during the last week of November and the first week of December, and will beach fishing in the area.
Being based at Stone Haven Bay I would like any advise on known areas worth trying please?
I will be taking a couple of 3lbtc Carp rods, fixed spool reels loaded up with 30lb braid, wire traces, lures and a few floats and snap tackle.
Could you please advise on local areas to where I am staying thats worth trying around sunrise and sunset?
Is fishing lures more favourble than float fishing live bait from the beach?
I will look to fish on the beach ends and rocky areas etc.
I will also hire a car for a week once there so I am not limited locally if the fishing is generally poor where I am staying.
Any advise would be appreciated!
(Cant wait to get out there!)

Thanks,
John

Places you could try include:

- Black Rock, either off the seaward side of the rock (if the swell is small) or off the rocks at Fort Bennet (just walk through the fort and past the bandstand and out the gate of the bottom)
- rocks at Back Bay (other direction from Black Rock)(again beware the swell)
- off the relict coral reef along the beach from Black Rock towards Plymouth
- Plymouth Pier ( a long walk along the beach to Plymouth)

If you scan the previous posts, some of these names should crop up.

I'm sure Steve Pitts will add his thoughts in due course too.

Happy fishing

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the advice, those suggested are all quite close to my base by the looks of it.
Should 30lb braid suffice off the beach/rocks or would you step up a bit? I would imagine the tarpon are hard work to get in from the rocks if hooked?

I will also be doing a few days inshore fishing with Kester and maybe one offshore as well if the Wahoo are running or there are Dorado about?
I did briefly speak to Mark Simmons and he also suggested Plymouth pier and the airport stretch, It will be around full moon when I am out there so i will be cautious with the swell!
I will report on my results. (hopefully a few fish!)

Thanks again,

John
